Lineups not yet posted.
Happ on the mound has been either middling or terrible, even of late, as the Yankees’ bats have been the overshadowing equalizer. Just Happ me get through five innings with three runs or less has been the mantra for me. The Blue Jays “yungins” can hit fastballs, so let’s Happ that his command is perfect. I have a feeling we might see more breaking balls from Happ this start.

No Judge and Torres is still out. judge is struggling, not sure what is up with Torres. Probably just being cautious.

No Judge and Torres is still out. Okay by me. Judge hasn't looked good, and the longer Torres can rest, the better. Eventually we're going to lose a few, but until that happens, I'd just as soon keep Torres on the bench or even IL him and bring up Estrada.

Happy days are here again.... I didn't want to start a new thread, but do players need as much rest as they get? Is this something only the Yankees do or is this a trend around the majors? I just ask because it seems the Red Sox seem to be bucking this trend as they play their stars almost every game if they're healthy. I know this is something we can afford to do because of our lead but even last year when the Red Sox was rolling, they played a lot. Only at the end did they start to rest their players a lot because they had clinched the division. Our guys seem to miss more than one start a month.

I've noted previously that no key Red Sox position player has spent a day on the IL this year. Not Betts, not JD, not Devers, not Benintendi, not Bogaerts, not Vazquez, not Bradley. The chance that that is just blind luck is approximately zero. I wouldn't trade places in the standings with them, don't misunderstand. But if one of the main purposes of a training and conditioning staff is to keep players on the field, then by any measure the Yankees' staff is subpar. If that's not one of their main purposes, fine. The Yankees can probably out bench press any team in baseball. But staying game ready, not so much. No, players surely don't need so much rest as the Yankees give them. I checked on the 1998 team. It had five players who played at least 149 games, and six who played at least 142 games. And they clinched early and were able to rest as needed. Unless LeMahieu and Torres play nearly every game the rest of the way, the 2019 Yankees will have no players play at least 149 games and at most three (add Gardner if he misses no more than four more games) play at least 142 games. This team has had an amazing season with a brilliantly constructed roster. And winning is the reason the game is played, so it's been a resounding success. But as a general principle, it seems like simply accepting the historic number of injuries the Yankees have sustained the last two seasons is very high-risk. Not my call, of course, but it seems to me the Yankees would want a medical staff equal to the scouting staff they have in place. Offer Boston's training staff double what they make and hire them.

And Boston is 17 games back. That suggests strongly that being in the IL is a good way to win games. As noted elsewhere I think the replacement players were better at being on base, struck out less, and were better at defense than the players they replaced (most obvious when the guys being replaced were Stanton, Sanchez, and possibly Hicks with Judge included in the case of strike outs only). Which is why we did better with more on the DL. The people in the DL fit our money ball philosophy which was less effective than the players that replaced them. Another explanation is its blind luck...but as an analyst I stay away from that.

Reid-Foley has a good slider, but now much else. Unless he can paint with his fastball, he won’t last long.
