And whitey, cracker, saltine...All of which were only used affectionately, of course...Now it’s gringo time. A Mexican friend I had used to call me “Dry Back”... lol...We had some good times. That guy had amazing mechanical skills, rough but effective carpentry skills, farmed. Could fix darn near anything. |

MLB Umpires Missed 34,294 Ball-Strike Calls in 2018. Bring on Robo-umps?
In 2018, MLB umpires made 34,294 incorrect ball and strike calls for an average of 14 per game or 1.6 per inning. Many umpires well exceeded this number. Some of these flubbed calls were game changing.

The case for robo-umps is building. That's some seriously detailed data in that report. I guess it shouldn't be surprising that younger umps make far fewer bad ball/strike calls than older ones, but the difference is pretty stark.
Also an unacceptably high percentage of strike three bad calls, although it's come down quite a bit over the past decade.
