Noetsi should read this the next time the Yanks have a bad game. There’s a great piece I have to find that talks about this from the context of why coaches are more conservative than they actually mathematically should be. Because people naturally overreact to failure, it emphasizes more conservatism than is warranted and reduces sensible risk taking.

There’s a great piece I have to find that talks about this from the context of why coaches are more conservative than they actually mathematically should be. Because people naturally overreact to failure, it emphasizes more conservatism than is warranted and reduces sensible risk taking. Here it is - good example of this is Bellichick going for it on 4th against the Colts a few years ago. Mathematically the right play (I actually thought he made the line for the first but whatever) but the uproar that followed because a coach defied the easy conventional choice is enough for most to not bother. medium.com/the-post-grad-survival-guide/lessons-for-living-1-pull-the-goalie-cdc61b679319
