In Memory of Dennis Gomes (Trane) A great fan, poster, knowledgeable of sports. One of the few to post in that era on the game threads here. He died in the Twin Towers, one of the few times I have cried in my adult life is when his wife came on to tell us that.... www.legacy.com/sept11/Story.aspx?PersonID=107485&location=2 Here's to you Dennis, probably talking to Mickey and Mr G about the Yankees Attachments:

I slipped in John Coltrane's "Blue Train" CD during my commute to work this morning to honor Trane.
RIP Dennis, you will never be forgotten.

Even though I wasn’t a part of the forum back then, this memorial always humanizes that horrible event. The fact that some maniacs decided to end thousands of lives that day while creating mayhem shows you how lucky we are whenever we’re not being faced by tragedy ourselves...

Similar to Pinochle, which along with Poker was how I spent many an evening back in college days. Euchre seemed to have more of a Midwest fan base -- I learned from friends at the University of Michigan -- while at least in my mis-spent youth Pinochle was more popular in the East. Man, I loved card games. Cribbage, Canasta, Gin Rummy, Bridge, Hearts, anything this side of War and Go Fish and Old Maid. Even had the Rootie Kazootie card game as a kid.

I used to invent games with a regular deck of cards as a youngster who spent a lot of time alone. Without getting into the complexity of the rules, I invented a way to flop cards that would represent a batters times st bat in a game, and I would dutifully track the created player’s season and career stats.
I also had another “game” that recreated NFL running backs statistics game by game and year by year, and then one for basketball players, as well.
I don’t recall any “record setting” seasons or performances except for a few four-home run games. The rules were tough in certain ways.
Hundreds of hours spent alone. That along with the comments on my report cards about me being a loner that would rather stay in and read than go outside with the others at recess and you have a perfectly profiled future serial killer. Lol. Very strange childhood it was. I used to spend countless hours tracking coin flips, too. Most of these activities were when we lived very remote from any neighbors and I had not been socialized, so not really totally by choice, mind you.
I never considered killing as a way of life. But cards were indeed some of my best friends in those days. It’s amazing really how many ways cards can entertain someone, given the relative low expense of owning a deck or three. when I look back at the additional statistical oddities that could have been achieved with multiple decks vs. the single deck I owned... wow...
Isn’t it odd how our lives can “profile” in one direction and take another? It’s why I’m not a big believer in profiling at it’s root, I suppose.
Oops. Now you know I’m even weirder than you thought...

Severe thunderstorm warnings until 11 PM. I don't see how they play the game today. Postponed is such an odd word. For a game to be postponed, one might expect that it would have been poned if it had not been postponed. I don’t get it. Maybe we can pone a game tomorrow...
