RIP Dennis Gomes. Can't believe its been 18 years. I didn’t know Dennis but I lost a childhood friend and a client from work that day. Nothing will matter as much as what happened that day and the way the country came together seems almost quaint and impossible right now. Rest In Peace Dennis and everyone who gave their lives that day and respect to the thousands of Americans who dropped everything immediately without question to help someone in a time of crisis.

Thinking about what friggin’ babies we are to be so disappointed that there won’t be a game tonight. It’s not like an airplane just struck our house and wiped us off the face of the map forever.
Perhaps a rainout is the most fitting way of honoring those folks, and Dennis. Something that we expected hasn’t happened. Nothing else will happen in place of it... if we’re lucky.
I was in my second year of living in Colorado for the first time. In my selfishness I felt a sense of personal relief for having left the east coast at that point, followed by a flush of concern for the rest of my family and friends back there. Even before I heard the news of the third plane, I had suspicions that the onslaught was not over. The weapon of choice seemed to be so readily available to me.
Life changed forever that day. Yet, we go about our lives now as though it was ancient history again. Just have to hope no one ever pulls off another feat that duplicates the amount of tragedy. But somewhere, someone is hoping to...

I was working until now so I made no comments. What remember about that day is that as an administrator of the political science boards on fanhome, where people were rarely nice, is how nice people were that day. In a period where anger has become consuming (political science boards are useless now, people are too angry to even discuss things)that is remarkable. The sad point to me is that I saw trane infrequently on the yankee board before he died (he posted on threads on the Yankee board I rarely saw I suspect). From what I have read about him he must have been awesome. He had a young child that the moderator of the Yankee board at that time (JoeSeaDog) created a scholarship for. That was awesome.
