That’s irritating to me. Why do we have to use opener Chad Green? I know, Montgomery is likely only going 2-3 innings. Everyone knows that. I know Green could follow Monty, so it sort of doesn’t matter, though who ever pitches second will have a chance to qualify for the win...It just bugs me, that’s all.
Some year in the near future, one of these “bulk” guys is going to luck into 20+ wins and get the Cy Young Award because of the novelty of the circumstances. In fact, given the advantage of inheriting leads to get wins, that role may be baseball’s secret passage to the return of the 30-game winner... A bulk pitcher could theoretically appear in 60 games, with over 40 in the bulk role, and win 30 games without even qualifying for the ERA title...

Green is 0-1; 4.15 as an opener this season. He’s fanned 28 in 17.2 innings in the role..., but has also served up 4 HR...

I got the Jays broadcast in between series of the Pats Dolphins game. Buck Martinez always sounds like a drunk 1970s disc jockey.
