In the vein of truly miscellaneous non-baseball things - A guy I used to be really good friends with was just sentenced to 2.5 years in federal prison for robbing a store with a knife. Used to hang out with the guy every day for a few years, then he got into hard drugs again(ripped me off of about a hundred bucks I loaned him, not knowing what it was for), so I cut him out. A friend of mine sent me an article, so when I read it and finally saw his name my heart sunk. He was a pretty good guy, really funny, then he went on the methadone program and it was all down hill from there. His family raised a ton of money to send him to rehab before he robbed the store. He has three kids under three years old, and now they're being raised by family. It really showed me how much hard drugs can change a person, because he was a truly decent person before all of this. This is honestly the first time I've known anyone go to prison for anything as serious as this, so it hit a little close to home, even if I didn't talk to him anymore. I don't care what anybody says... Addiction is a disease. I was on methadone for almost four years and it saved my life. About a year and a half after my life being amazing I made the stupid decision to have a couple drinks which quickly escaladed into me needing to drink... Wound up getting 3 DWIs in less than a year and had to do six months in jail. If I never picked up that drink I would probably still be on methadone and never have gotten into legal and family trouble. I'm a horrible person when I get into drinking. Prison for people with a disease is so asinine. But I can go on for hours about that. My conclusion is addiction is a disease Glad to see things seem to have improved for you, Sierchio. A lot of people I know from my home town who didn't move away are drug addicts now. There are no job prospects there, and no real amenities, so people that's how people pass the time I guess.

Guess who was on my bench in my fantasy team????!!!!! Mr. Corbin.... FML!! I really should pay more attention to the lineup/bench... Or check it more often. On my behalf it had been a hectic day. Lucky me played Tanaka today too. Yay luck What size/format do you play in? I play in a 7x7 h2h categories league, really liking my team this year. Kept Bryant, Rizzo, Jose Ramirez, Hoskins and Kluber. Highlights of my draft so far are: Albies, Jose Martinez, Haniger, Yelich, Conforto(slow start but I think he's a stud) and Nola.

Honestly I don't know the format. I do know that I don't like the scoring compared to years past. It's on Yahoo and according the kaybli it's the default scoring for them. I'm used to each game a player gets 4 points for a Homer 2 for a double. Ect ect. This format you get one point at the end of the week for each category you lead in

We just use categories with 1 win per category. Last year I dropped Judge before he went beast mode and regretted it ever since

I'd buy this guy a beer if I saw him in the stadium.

I'd buy this guy a beer if I saw him in the stadium. I saw him during the game and he puts a judges wig on when Judge is batting.

Been doing well so far. I'm frantically looking over my roster to make room for Gleyber because my only SS is Bregman and I'm really not a big believer in him atm.

Thought you guys might like to see this post I made in reply to JWild over on the paid side at Scout.Com or 24/7 or whatever they call it these days...
Slight change of subjects here, but when you added commentary about Chase Headley I was inspired to think of this. What if the Yankees had never invested Headley and had simply kept Yangervis Solarte to play third base for them? I'm too uninspired to do the math for the partial seasons with the Yankees for both players in 2014, but from 2015-2017 here is the comparison for the two players:
Solarte .270/.324/..435; 106+ with 47 HR and 198 RBI in 389 games Headley .262/.335/.386; 94+ with 37 HR and 174 RBI in 443 games
Solarte has played a fair amount at 2B in addition to 3B and dabbling in the OF and a 1B for the Pads during that time period. Headley has dabbled at 1B and played an inning at 2B.
I think the primary reasons the Yankees opted for trading the players for each other were that they felt Headley was better defensively and that he had more upside with the bat than Solarte. Headley did play well with the glove for the most part, but he also had a couple of notable fielding slumps, and Solarte wound up being the better hitter of the two. In addition, the Yankees included Jose De Paula in the trade, so the trade wound up favoring the Pads (though DePaula is still languishing in the minors post injury)...
Oh, and of course...Solarte was the least expensive option, though he is now up to $8M per season with the Jays...I think it's a trade that would never have been made in hindsight...De Paula would still have been dealt somewhere...so we won't cry over him...

Solarte will cool off from his hot start this year. And whats up with all his hot dogging? I don't recall him being that much of an obnoxious bastard when he was with us. He must have picked it up from somewhere.

My damned vampire blood is flowing again tonight. At one time 11:48 wasn't even my "bed time" yet, so I suppose I'm bitching about so little. I ate at a Popeye's Chicken today. That is dreadful crap. I think it's at the very least not helping me to go to sleep...Who loves Popeye's? Not me...

Since I posted on this site recently about the record for most pitches ever seen in an MLB AB (recorded history only), which had been 20 by Ricky Guitierrez (and the pitcher was Bartolo Colon), Brandon Belt just broke that record with a 21-pitch at bat (pitcher was Jaime Barria). Even the most obscure records are now tracked and make the newspapers. I'm becoming less relevant by the day...But wanted to make sure you all noticed the new record...

Fourteen MLB players that have played in only one game in their MLB careers have stolen a base in that game. Only one of those fourteen, Dutch Schirick stole two bases in his lone game...
Eighteen players that have only played in one MLB game have hit a double in that game. None of them has hit 2 doubles. None of the one game players has ever hit a home run, but Ed Irwin accomplished a much more uncommon feat when he hit 2 triples in his only MLB game...
Three players have had 6 PA (and also 6 AB) in their only MLB game. All three hit two singles for a .333 lifetime average.
John Paciorek scored 4 runs in his only MLB game, and no one else has scored more than 2 in their sole contest
John Paciorek is also well known for being the only player to go 3 for 3 plus a pair of walks in his only game, but the record for most hits in an only career game is 4. Ray Jansen went 4 for 5 on his big day.
Four players, including John Paciorek drove in 3 runs in their only game in MLB.
Caught Stealing has not always been tracked as a stat, but only four players are officially listed as being caught stealing in their only contest, with Charlie Miller leading the pack with 2.
Al Bradley, and (guess who?) John Paciorek are the only batters with 2 BB in their lone contest...
11 players have fanned 3 times in their only game, and another three went down 4 times...
The career W-L record for pitchers in their only MLB game is a lopsided 28-135.
18 pitchers have posted the dreaded infinity ERA, with the highest official numbered ERA of 189.00 belonging to Joe Cleary
182 pitchers were starters in their only game and 351 were relievers
215 pitchers have finished the game they appeared in
76 pitchers of the 182 that started their lone game finished it.
None of the starting pitchers has thrown a shut out in their only game
11 Pitchers were credited with saves in their only appearance in MLB
Monty Shwartz lost a complete game in a 12-inning effort
Hal Schwenk won his complete game in 11 innings.
Alan Travers allowed 26 hits in his lone start
Tony Von Frickin allowed 23 hits in his lone start
7 assorted pitchers allowed 3 HR in their one start
9 pitchers allowed at least 8 walks, with two of them allowing 10
Only 6 of the pitchers are credited with allowing an intentional BB
Bob Dresser struck out 8 way back in 1902
Half a dozen of the one-start wonders were able to hit 3 batters with a pitch in their effort.
Surprisingly only 2 pitchers have balked twice in their single game
5 such pitchers have thrown 5 wild pitches
A fellow named McDoolan (no first name, just like Cher) faced 59 hitters, the most any one ever faced in a single game. He pitched a complete game, allowing 24 runs (3 earned) off 18 hits. He did not strike out or walk anyone.
Robin Yount's brother, Larry holds the record for fewest batters faced when he injured himself during warm ups after being announced into the game and never faced a batter on that or any other mLB day...
* Many thanks to Baseball-Reference for the information, but if typing that up doesn't put me to sleep, I may be back here and do an even more boring post... (;
