Any steak afficianado's out there? I visit Peter Luger's in Brooklyn at least twice a year and have been to most of the good steakhouses in Manhattan including Wolfgang's, Del Frisco's, Keen's, Strip House, Sparks, Club A, BLT Prime, and Quality Meats just to name a few. Have I missed any good ones? Ever tried a bison steak???

Very good. I also got to try an elk burger this past winter in a little town called Stonewall, CO...which was REALLY good...local kill...but from an elk farm for meat...
The bison requires a chef that knows what they're doing if you like your meat well done. It can dry out in a hurry, but both meats are extremely lean (especially the bison. It's not the same as beef, but I find that beef seems to taste different to me than it did when I was younger. I don't know if it's because my pallet has changed, or if it's the hormones, or diet of the animals...
I recommend both from my experience. Do you like your animals to still be kicking when you eat them, or do like them well done???

You can also get what they call Beefalo out here, which is obviously a hybrid. The reason they did the breeding is to keep a bit of the fat on the animal to keep it more cookable. I've not tried it, and I understand the herds are shrinking due to lack of popularity...It is a kick when I get to go to places where you can still see herds of 400 or so bison all in one place...They're impressive beasts. I've seen pick up trucks that they've knocked over. Fair enough. If humans can tip cattle, why can't buffalo tip our vehicles???

I've had good luck cooking bison burger myself. I know what you mean about them drying out fast but I like my beef bloody to begin with (insert that meme here) So I'm always careful not to over cook. As far as the steaks.. I'd like to try them... Professionally cooked. My buddy out in Pittsburgh is a professional chef.. maybe I'll get him to whip me up some when I visit

I am a well done guy, but good god, no ketchup (catsup)...I hate that stuff...To me a good steak should always be able to stand on it's own merits, but if it's a bit shaky I'll use A-1 Steak Sauce...(and that pisses me off when I have to do that)...

Who remembers Bob Kammeyer? He had his best season for the Yankees in 1978 (about the only thing he had in common with Ron Guidry) when he pitched to an ERA of 5.82. In 1979, he entered a game vs. Cleveland in the fourth inning with the Yanks behind 4-0 and surrendered 8 runs...without recording an out. That was it for his 1979 season. An ERA of infinity...in a game that finished as a 16-3 thrashing of the Yankees by Cleveland...Two players with Yankee connections, Cliff Johnson and Toby Harrah clubbed a pair of HRs in that game...Another "memorable" Yankee pitcher, Paul Mirabella, made his final appearance ever for the Yankees that day, getting knocked out of the game with 2 outs in the first inning to finish his season with a nifty 8.79 ERA...
A day of infamy...

Here's a little trivia question for you all...probably too easy in these days of Google, but we'll see...
What player played for all of the following teams?
Mets, Astros, A’s, Yankees, Royals, Braves, White Sox, Pirates, Dodgers, Rockies, Blue Jays, Cardinals, and Tigers

What about July 27, 1930? Ken Ash was summoned from the bullpen for the Reds in a game vs. the Cubs that the Reds were trailing 3-2. There were two men on, and no outs. Ash threw a single pitch, which resulted in a triple play. The Reds pinch hit for Ash in the bottom of the sixth and scored four runs. Ash is the only pitcher in history to record a victory while pitching a full inning while throwing a single pitch...

Not that I think you looked it up, but facts like that are spouted by every sports announcer these days. Dotel is the only player to appear for 13 different teams...Dotel was always a pretty good pitcher, but his career had a lot of bumps. He won and lost the closer role on various teams as many times as some "pro wrestlers" won the WWE title (and lost it)...
