Thanks everyone for your condolences.
It was a long, strange trip yesterday. It took about 6 hours to drive to Newark, but seemed much longer. If you aren't used to driving in New Jersey, it can be a harrowing experience. Like my grandfather used to say, New Jersey is not a place for nervous people. Listening to Gloria arguing with Google Maps also made it a little more stressful. Plus, when we finally made it to Newark, it's changed so much, she didn't know how to get around her old neighborhood, because streets are now all one-way.
After the wake, we planned on getting a hotel uptown so we could attend the funeral today, but all the hotels were booked because of a Tony Robbins seminar at the Prudential Center. Tony Robbins? Who knew that guy was still a thing. So after an hour or so of looking for a hotel, we decided to drive to Gloria's brother's place in Manasquan, which is on the shore. It was about an hours drive and by the time we made it at 8 PM, the town was pretty much closing up. Neither of us had eaten, so we found a little place on the strip and were the last customers of the day. We needed a drink, so I had a Bombay Sapphire martini and Gloria had an old fashioned. After a couple of sip, all was right with the world. We split an order of shrimp and grits, and then I had Whistle Pig on the rocks for dessert. I ended up sleeping like a baby.
Two days ago, if you had told me I'd be in New Jersey, let alone the shore, I'd say you were crazy. It's friggin cold, too. Not a good time of year to be at the shore.

Yesterday was my wife and I's 25th wedding anniversary. 25 years with one person, in the past I never though that would be, but I guess time does fly by when you're with the right person. Just thought I'd share that little tidbit with you. Thanks for reading!

Gloria's 92 year cousin died, which means I have to drive to Newark, NJ today. There may be a hamburger from Krug's Tavern or Burger Walla in my future. Well Desousa, what did you choose and I know Kaybli is anxiously awaiting a review.

That can be a rough assignment… No, she's in an assisted living facility that's only a couple of miles from our house. She has dementia and it's getting worse, it's so sad to watch.

My grandfather had Alzheimer's and it was so sad to see him that way in his final years.

Driving in New Jersey is always an adventure! Glad you were able to make a trip here! Years before my Mom passed away she was visiting me in California. We were driving somewhere and came to a cross walk on a fairly busy street. I stopped to let a pedestrian cross the street. As I resumed our journey my Mom asked me if I knew why New Jersey was called the Garden State. I started to talk about the tomatos and sweetcorn but she stopped me and said thats not it. She said if someone walked in front of a moving car like that we'd of planted them. I think she was kidding.
