Let me echo how much fun this season was and how much I enjoyed the back and forth on this board. Hated it ended the way it did. Too many ice cold bats and no clutch hitting which we got all season. In the Series, the Astros front line pitching will potentially be matched by the Nats. Should be interesting, but would prefer to be watching the Savages play! Fun season though.

I’m going to miss Didi. That money can and should be spent elsewhere. He was a great guy to root for.

Hanging slider. Should not have thrown them back to back. In the end, Chapman fell behind both Springer and Altuve. Yankees did themselves no favors in this series. Houston was the better fundamental baseball team. We make far too many mistakes in the field and on the bases, and the Astros put more balls in play. Urshela and LeMahieu nearly won this game for us. Also, I believe we would have been better off starting Happ and following with Cessa. I really cannot stand the one-inning opener bullshit. Please make a note to scrap this abomination next year. Chapman is not a smart pitcher. He succeeds on raw ability. When that’s not good enough he’s not special. He’s never going to outthink a hitter certainly not a hitter as smart as Altuve. I am hoping Chapman opts out and leaves.

I agree with GF. Chapman has no smarts, just throws very hard. Sanchez needs to help him more like yell, throw fastballs maroon!

I was too disappointed to even post on here last night after such a nasty exit to what had been a fairy tale of a season. Great respect for the castoffs and assorted nobodies who miraculously kept this team winning when it seemed impossible. Along of course with the guys you expected to step up.
I really thought we had it this year. But the post-mortem of the Astros series sounds a lot like the post-mortem of the 2018 series against Boston. Missed opportunities. Too many big names not producing. Too many sluggers flailing at pitches out of the zone, something they were good at limiting during the season.
Chapman was the logical guy to have out there in the ninth, no argument with that. But clearly poor pitch selection. I had not forgotten that he nearly blew Game Seven for the Cubs against Cleveland in 2016, allowing a homer to blow a three-run lead to tie the game in the eighth. He got bailed out by his offense in that one.
This one ranks up there in my worst Yankee losses.

Not sure why sanchez agreed to a breaking ball. He is supposed to be smarter than that.
We blew too many chances. I think the huge hole Green put us in probably generated too much stress which explains many of the game issues. A young team trying to hard.
Let us not forget the great relief pitching between the 1st and 9th. With the exception of sanchez the young guys are doing better. We need better starters. Hopefully Cashman finally realizes that.

Like a suicide note, then... never mind... then, when everyone thinks you’re good again... suicide! ... I didn’t think he’d do it... I wouldn't call it a suicide note. Suicide is pretty serious. This is just baseball. They'll be more games next year. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Dark humor. Very dark. I’m so ashamed. I’ve become noetsi...

I keep thinking back to the Yankees and all the missed opportunities and that blasted hanging slider to Altuve. Oh well. Got to turn the page.

I give Boone credit here for not just going with the Astros are the better team crap. Reporter asks him what do you have to do to catch up to the Astros and Boone doesn't give the media that and says that the talent is close etc.

You can’t really look at a best of seven series as a measuring stick. I would say that if the goal would be for us to win more games than Houston next year to get home field advantage, let the Astros play in the AL East and we’ll play in the AL West next year. We could have won 110 in the West, and the Astros would have won less than 107 in the East for certain. Plus... really... the best team seldom wins the WS any more. There are too many teams in the post season... ):

Yeah, what the hell was that about? Dreaming of going home and emptying his handgun into the basement wall again?...
