We’ll see what his early 30s looks like but as of this point in his career he reminds me a lot of Derek Jeter.
You don’t let that guy beat you and end your season if you have another option.

For the Yankees, he's like the new George Brett, Edgar Martinez or David Ortiz. A massive Yankee Killer.

Altuve he has to show he can extend greatness into his 30s as Jeter did which many other very good players have not been able to do. But his athleticism and skillset should allow him to do that better than most.

I wholeheartedly agree with all of the above. I thought I was the only one on here who felt that way. The comparison to Jeter is very fair IMO. Altuve is a HOF player and honestly when he isn't playing the Yankees I love watching his game.
Chi, I was just coming on here to compare him as a Yankee killer to the exact same three players. I guess it's either another example of great minds thinking alike or just so freaking obvious that we can't miss it.
I will always wonder what would have happened had we taken our chances with Jake Marisnick and a runner in scoring position.

He is a great player although throwing him anything that he can hit solidly with two outs in the 9th is hard to excuse. If you have to just walk him.

I always think of Altuve along the lines of Pedroia... I guess because they're both midget 2nd basemen...

Actually Altuve played 9 seasons so far and they're pretty close to Pedroia's first 9 years.... Altuve played about 100 more games in those 9 years. And then I look at Jeter's stats and you guys are right, Altuve compares better to Jeter.

Yeah, I'd put Altuve on the HOF level with Jeter, while Pedroia is with the really, really good group, like Bernie Williams, Posada and O'Neill.

You don’t let that guy beat you and end your season if you have another option. You can't hang him a slider when Jake Marisnick is next that's for sure.

I think pedroria was headed there but the injuries took away from going that direction. I get the comparassions you are making GF and they aren't wrong but I will never "enjoy" watching someone from another team play. I'm just not one of those people who could watch other teams games if the Yankees aren't in it.

I hate to elevate any player to HOF level at age 30 or so. So much can (and often does) happen to derail careers. Four times with 200 hits, a couple batting titles and leading his league steals a couple of times is certainly a great foundation for discussion at this point.
His exuberance can make you hate him as an opponent, but you realize how much you’d live him as a team mate. He reminds me of a lot of the great players that I did hate as a youth, but discovered reverence and respect for as an adult. That’s where I place Altuve right now. He’s in a select group of players that I hold with reverence and respect. I’m a bit in awe of him...
