I think this now deserves its own thread since we are getting down to the wire. Cashman is flying into San Diego to get down to business.

Any predictions? Do you think the Yankees will actually pull this off? It might take 300 million over 8 years.

to me that is too much unless we are going to ignore the spending cap/luxury tax for the next 8 years. Maybe without the Stanton contract it would work.

If Strasburg got that kind of money for 7 years at 31 years old I would be surprised chiyankee if Cole didn't get the length and money you suggest. Crazy isn't it?

I can see the Stanton contract being an anchor around the Yankee's neck for many years. They have the money but in a couple years they are going to have to pay Judge the sun, moon and stars. There is no way they can not go way over the luxury tax level with Stanton, Judge and Cole. I'm guessing Cashman has figured that out as well.

Who knows what the luxury tax level will be in the next CBA. I heard rumors that the players were going to push to get rid of the luxury tax altogether.

Remember, CC's contract and maybe DiDi's comes off the books now and Ellsbury and Happ's after next season.

Glad we’re not watching the money... (:

Maybe, maybe not. Is there any other union out there stronger than the MLB Players? Maybe the umpires. You don’t even have to know a ball from a strike...

The players sure don't want it, and I think there would be an increasing number of owners who don't. The Yankees under The Boss were on their own back when the Yankees spent way more than anybody else, but with the revenues baseball is swimming in these days there are more teams with a reason to want to get rid of the luxury tax. Probably not a majority just yet, but the Yankees are no longer the only team with a vested interest in getting rid of the tax.
