Your post brought back memories. I almost forgot that from the Big Band Era, my parents were fans of Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman. Miller and Goodman had great bands. I still listen to their stuff today. Tommy Dorsey had a good band as well -- Sinatra sang with them as you probably know. Duke Ellington was brilliant. At the tail end of the Big Band Era guys like Stan Kenton moved in a different direction, more like progressive swing. There is great music in every era. I think most people understandably are more attached to the music they grew up with. No Guy Lombardo fans?

He was on TV in my Parents house every New Years Eve. My parents always hosted a huge New Year's Eve Party, so Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians interfered with that. But I was certainly aware of him and would check out the very sedate celebration (from the Waldorf Astoria of course) as a kid. I remember Mad Magazine had a mock intelligence test and one of the questions showed a drawing of a square and the correct answer for what it represented was Guy Lombardo.

Did you see the Sherlock TV series staring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman? I heard it was real good. On my list of TV shows to watch. It’s a wonderful series. I recommend it. I became enthralled with Cumberbatch after watch him in the Sherlock series.

As soon as I finish Shogun I'm going to watch Fallout next. What made you pickup Fallout? I can't imagine you played the games. I've always enjoyed the games so when I heard the show got good reviews it made it a must watch for me. How far are you in the show and what are your impressions? Speaking of Shogun, watched the finale last night. IMO, quite disappointing. 1955nyyfan , I finished watching the finale. I admit it might be a little underwhelming, but I still enjoyed it, definitely more than you. I won't spoil it for others. If you want you can DM me and we can discuss it further. I enjoyed the whole show. It was different. Not among my favorites but I'd give it a solid 7.5 out of 10 overall.

Fallout was better than I had heard it would be, and this is coming from someone who's played the games.
Lately I have been watching Sugar and it's gotten very interesting, especially after last Friday's episode. Colin Farrell is one of my favorites.

I'll have to watch it. Everyone keeps telling me it was amazing. Great show, with really fine acting by the leads as well as supporting actors. I've always been a big Sherlock Holmes fan, going back to Basil Rathbone. I think Cumberbatch is as good as anyone who has played the character!

Another real good show on Netflix is "Longmire". It's about a sheriff in Wyoming. The shots of Wyoming are great too.

I love Cumberbatch and I used to love the old Sherlock Holmes books so I think I will love the show. Will check it out soon.

I am a huge Conan Doyle fan and agree Sherlock is a great modern take. My favorite in the role was the Granada series with Jeremy Brett, who by far embodied the moody and theatricality of Holmes from the books.

I have been hook on with Acorn TV Police series from New Zealand called "Brokenwood Mystery." Also I have been watching Masterpiece on PBS about the true story about the Postmasters fighting the Royal Postal Service, who installed a new computer system that was faulty. Also they had a special with the real people in the story. Another great show is the Bomb Squad of the Metropolitan Police in London.
