I know it isn't baseball, but ESPN is reporting that Kobe Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash near LA. Awful news if true.

So shocking, I was watching the Sixers/Lakers game night and Lebron passed Kobe on the all time scoring list and now he's gone. 4 other people were killed in the crash.

I'm in France and I guarantee it will be big news here. And even bigger next door in Italy, where he spent some of his formative years. A great talent for certain.

I don’t see any reason this thread should be confined to only baseball in any event. It’s a thread about humanity. It’s a cautionary lesson to live each day to it’s fullest. To remind us that just because we woke up this morning there is no proof we will lay our head on our pillow tonight. A cautionary lesson that in most ways we are equal. Money, fame, position. They’re all nice, but they don’t chance our basic place in the universe. |

I wasn’t a fan. Recalling the rape allegations from a few years back. Still sad news...No one deserves to die so young, and people can be rehabilitated. I hope he had been...

Kobe's daughter Gianna Maria Onore -- aka GiGi -- was also on board the helicopter and died in the crash ... reps for Kobe tell TMZ Sports. She was 13.
We're told they were on their way to the Mamba Academy for a basketball practice when the crash occurred. The Academy is in nearby Thousand Oaks.
