If Mickey Mantle would have been born in this era, would he have been an unknown, always on the IL? I don’t understand how these guys are always hurt.

Stanton is a pussy... When we traded for him, there was talk that he was injury prone, but it seemed it was freak occurrences... Now, I just think he can't handle aches and pains like a normal man should... As someone who suffers from spinal stenosis, and has worked through MAJOR pain... I don't feel sorry for the guy and his calf ache...
</RANT>
Okay okay.. maybe I'm a lil rough on the guy... but seriously wtf..

Is Stanton really only 30 years old? I beginning to have my doubts. He's turning into the new Ellsbury.

I think some of these guys are just too big. All this power weight lifting that guys like Stanton are doing might not be best suited for baseball. It seems like these type of players are always coming down with muscle strains and pulls.

Honestly, I think the powerlifting isn't that bad... if done right. I'm no expert... but I used to do a powerlifting program... I'm also no athlete... So yeah, my 2 cents aren't really worth more than 2 cents

My 2 cents would be: Moderation. You're not a powerlifter, you're not an Olympic weightlifter... if you want to do those lifts, great.. but don't pretend that's how you make your money... you're a baseball player, so don't go pushing yourself to do PR's in the gym everyday. Your value relies on staying on the field... Conditioning and recovery are under rated. The better you recover (one of the benefits of steroids, you recover faster, so you train more) the more you can train..

I'm sure they're hurt just as much as they were in Mantle's days... but players are scared to play through the pain now... or it's more normalized to hit the IL... Players don't know the difference between what you can play through and what you need to recover from...

For baseball players (and runners), you don't need to so powerful and big, it's almost like they are too big for their bodies to handle.

That makes sense to me. "Fat doesn't pull."

Guys like David Wells lasted a long time. and tim wakefield. I agree too many muscles may not work. Now I just read an article on the Athletic that Stanton changed his off season workouts to include more agility and flexibility work, yet he still gets hurt. Maybe he just has a lot of bad luck?

But the muscle was already there. I still think it’s a muscle mass issue with a lot of these guys...
