How does anyone hit that thing? Or his slider? It's seems like when Ottavino gets in trouble, he's his own worst enemy with poor command. When he throws strikes, he's almost unhittable.

Unless that was also because he thought the other team knew what was coming. So hard to throw a pitch with conviction if think the hitter can hit it...

Johnny Bench said there was one game that he knew what was coming because a pitcher was tipping. He hit two homers and a double off of him. Bench said ihe would hit .700 if that was always the case.

Bench was asked about the position and fundamentals. He said, “Easy. Catch every ball.” He wasn’t being flippant. He really meant it, as a mindset and goal. He also didn’t understand why all catchers don’t put their throwing hand behind their back to protect from foul tips.
