Hey don’t worry pipps. This is the dedicated music thread. You can talk music here anytime you want! The new posters might even join you. 🎶 Thanks Kaybli. Unfortunately the period I know most about pre-dates the musical interest of nearly all of the posters. There is a period in the 70s and early 80s when I coincide with more people. I'm good with Devo and The Police and even Quarterflash and The Go-Gos before I start to fade somewhere around the age of Nirvana and Green Day and Toad The Wet Sprocket and Jesus Jones. Oh yeah, and the Las. Love the Las. I love Devo, the Police, Nirvana, and Green Day. I have to check out the Las. Whats your favorite song by them?

The La's (I forgot they put an improper apostrophe in their name unless they actually mean it as a possessive rather than a plural) were from Liverpool and they had one monster hit "There She Goes" in 1990 which was later covered by Sixpence None The Richer in 1999, and that version was a bigger hit in the US. Sixpence does okay with it, but the original blows it away in my opinion. That song -- and the La's in general -- got tons of critical acclaim but they weren't around very long. I'm having trouble making links here so I can't help out much. In fact while I can read the board I am unable to log in at all from my phone. I keep getting a "connection can not be made" message. Hopefully it's just me and others aren't being blocked as well.

Hey Inger, I'm sorry Larry Ferrari seeped down to Maryland from Philly. Sunday mornings on channel 6. Oh yeah, I love Dino's old stuff, especially "Ain't That A Kick In The Head" and of course "That's Amore." At the very pinnacle of The British Invasion in 1964, he still managed a huge pop hit with "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime." Matt Helm was very cool, as was his TV show, sliding down the pole to his piano player Ken Lane when he felt a song coming on. Concur on Paul Williams. Sissy music. “I Take A Lot Of Pride In What I Am”… youtu.be/YQ90ZEJ83xs?si=hee7pNh7hAwltcNiI am familiar with the Merle Haggard version but never heard Dean Martin's take before. For a milli-second at the start of that clip there is a glimpse of The Golddiggers, the decorative singers/dancers from Dino's TV show. The celebrity roasts he used to do would never be permitted today. Humor was still legal in that distant era.

Or maybe you just don't like them -- probably slightly too early for you since they broke through in the early 90s with "All I Want" and "Walk On The Ocean." I give them props for taking their name from a Monty Python skit. EDIT -- well obviously you are not bound by era constraints since Devo and The Police far pre-date TTWS. I was surprised to see that Green Day is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Not saying they shouldn't be, they were very influential, but it shows me how far out of the musical loop I am. The R&R HOF is an acquired taste to my way of thinking.

Matt Helm was very cool, as was his TV show, sliding down the pole to his piano player Ken Lane when he felt a song coming on. Concur on Paul Williams. Sissy music. I remember telling the guy that wound up being my bat man at wedding numero uno about the Dean Martin Show (poor Mike passed suddenly a few months ago). He had never even heard of Dean Martin. He reported back to me that he loved the show. His take was this old man surrounded by hot chicks while imbibing reminded him of his favorites the “In Like Flynn” movies with Peter Sellers, which led me to watch those… Much love, Mike. I hope your spirit has the same smile your earthly persona did… I bet Dino would have been a fun guy to hang around with. Sorry inger, I can't let this go. "In Like Flint" starred James Coburn. Another guy that would have been fun to hang around with. Paul Williams wrote some of Three Dog Nights worst songs like "Just and Old Fashioned Love Song" and "Family of Man". Also "Out in the Country", which I think is better than the other two. He also wrote some of The Carpenters best music like "We've Only Just Begun" and "Rainy Days and Monday". And don't forget The Muppets "Rainbow Connection". Never mind, you can forget that one. He also did some passable acting in his day. Most famous for the "Smokey and the Bandit" series, and recently Billy Bob Thornton's, "Goliath".

I must admit Green Day has grown on me over the years. “Longview,” “Basket Case,” “21 Guns,” “Good Riddance,” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends” are my favorites. I kind of look at them as one of the last links from Punk Rock of the 1970s and the incoming Grunge phenomena.

Weird but I trust our fearless leader to rectify the situation! Its a known issue. They are working on a fix. Meanwhile, here's a workaround from the support guy:Step 1: Log in to your dashboard at proboards.com using your email address and password. Step 2: From your list of forum accounts click on either your avatar or user/display name to log in to your forum account. Do not click on the actual forum name. Logging out from the forum (or account switching) will not work at this time. To log into a different forum or forum account, return to your dashboard and repeat Step 2.
He also says "I apologize that this issue has not been fixed yet. I've messaged our systems team for an update and will post again when I learn more."Edit: The issue has been fixed. You should be able to login regularly now.

Are you familiar with Toad The Wet Sprocket? Or maybe you just don't like them -- probably slightly too early for you since they broke through in the early 90s with "All I Want" and "Walk On The Ocean." I kind of look at them as one of the last links from Punk Rock of the 1970s and the incoming Grunge phenomena. Concur on Green Day. The punk reaction was such a needed course correction in the 1970s. Rock and Roll is a big tent, but somewhere in the corner of that tent there needs to be some edginess, whether it's from Jerry Lee Lewis or James Brown or proto-punk garage bands that nobody remembers today like The Shadows of Knight or The Music Machine or first wave punks like the Sex Pistols or The Ramones on up through as you say Green Day and Grunge. Obviously there is always going to be plenty of room for straight-ahead rock or power pop or narrative singer-songwriters or R&B, soul, country-flavored or lyrical ballads or any other genres you can name. But without some of the eff-you brand the corporate moguls will always push in the direction of lowest common denominator pap music for people who don't care about music.

Born and raised in a Italian American household I heard many a Jerry Vale, Dean Martin, Perry Como, Tony Bennett, and Frank Sinatra songs. But good music is good music, I enjoy listening to every kind of music from Pavarotti to Nirvana.

I agree that good music is good music. I enjoy listening to everything from hip hop to country.
