Like you, I expected him to become huge. Never happened...can't explain why. Last I looked for him he was playing somewhere in Vegas. Yes..."Love Enough" & "Sister Lilac" were very good, as was "Charmer", which as I recall won some type of award on an early "American Idol-like" songwriters TV show. The only Philly connection I have is thru music. In fact, I was living in SoCal when I first heard "Second Avenue". Don't remember where I heard it, but I immediately looked for and found the album. It was eventually "lost", but I was able to find the CD, which I still have somewhere. We were listening to the same stuff. I don't suppose you had The Electric Prunes album from a few years earlier? Early psychedelia. "I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night" and "Get Me To The World On Time." Lots of pretentious stuff on the liner notes, something along the lines of "Hail to thee, Electric Prunes" or some such nonsense. Harmless fun. Know "The Electric Prunes'...didn't have the album. Coincidentally...I "met" someone who was close to Don (Agrati) Grady thru the old MLB Yankee Message Board. We were able to get together at a Yankee-Angels game in Anaheim and swap baseball/music related stories. A good guy.

"Last Kiss", the Cavaliers Haha, J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers. "The screaming tires, the busting glass, the painful scream that I heard last." Coming toward the end of the teen tragedy genre in 1964, although it had been written in 1961. Hard to believe that Pearl Jam covered it. And even worse, Eddie Vedder sounded like Mr. Ed singing it…

In my opinion, the most underrated rock song...."After Dark" by Tito & Tarantula.

WOW! 2 great choices. I forgot about "Tired of Toein' The Line"! One of my favorite songs back in the day. Yeah Max, it seemed to disappear from oldies playlists very quickly. I still have his album "Son Of Rock And Roll." You probably know that his father Johnny was an early rocker who did hard-hitting Rockabilly before turning commercial with hits like "Dreamin'" and "You're Sixteen." Great topic and I hope others chime in. No, I didn't know Johnny is his father. I'm learning a lot on this thread.

In my opinion, the most underrated rock song...."After Dark" by Tito & Tarantula. Yea I remember it from Salma Hayek's dance scene in From Dusk Till Dawn.

I am, I favor the ARS version because of the guitar solo. Every year the classic rock station out here in Chicago keeps that one alive by playing at Halloween. That and "The Monster Mash" start racking up royalties in late October. Can't forget other scary classics, like "Devil Woman" by Cliff Richard and "Season of the Witch" by Donavon.

Italian folk dance "Tarantella" originated in Southern Italy as a supposed symptomatic reaction or curative treatment for a "tarantula wolf spider" bite.

When "Tired of Toein' The Line" was mentioned in this thread, it reminded me of another song that I didn't hear in years..."Keep Your Hands To Yourself" by The Georgia Satellites.

That song relaxes me, the same way "Light My Fire" by The Doors does.

I like the Doors but why are their songs (at least the ones I like) so long?

I like the Doors but why are their songs (at least the ones I like) so long? I lost count on how many times I fell asleep to the song "Light My Fire". When my brothers and me weren't watching late night TV shows in our bedroom, every once in awhile one of my older brothers would play that record.
