Arguably true. I believe Boone felt he could use Garcia as a decoy, whereas that would not apply to Holder. I also believe he saw it as a way for Garcia to lose his cherry with minimal risk... A decoy? You must have a different definition of decoy. Someone is either on the mound or not. The second part of your post makes the most sense - if Garcia is scheduled for another start. Part of the strategy was to allow Happ to face a bunch of left handed hitters, but he was supposed to get them out.

So that move results in 2.2 IP and 4 ER on 2 HR pending on how this better goes. Ottavino in an important AB.

What are the chances Ottavino strands the runners here?

CB Sucknor. He is bad.
West Angel CB
Probably in that order of crappiness, but there’s not much difference between them...

By decoy, I meant as a decoy for a pitcher who was intended to be on the mound for the duration of the game (or at least 6-7 innings). As such, the Rays would set the lineup with the expectation of seeing him 2-4 times. Then the Yanks with the sudden switch to a left hander... In that case, we are going to decoy them for the next five innings...

What the f$*K was Boone thinking? I hate when managers outthink themselves.

What are the chances Ottavino strands the runners here? A talented pitcher. He’s had some time off. Let’s hope he got himself right in that time. He does a lot of self-analyzing, working out by himself. We need him...

Geez that was a near disaster. Ottavino on the mound, Frazier in left. What could have gone wrong? 😂...
