It’s a bit disappointing that the Yankees really haven’t drafted and developed a top-tier starting pitcher since Andy Pettitte. We had high hopes for Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy, Joba Chamberlain, Dellin Betances, Andrew Brackman, Manny Banuelos, etc., but it just hasn’t happened. I shouldn’t forget Chien-Ming Wang, alas what could have been if not for inter-league play and running the bases. Whitey Ford Mel Stottlemyer Ron Guidry Andy Pettitte In 70 years, not exactly a ringing endorsement of pitcher prospect identification and development by the Yankees. No wonder the Yankees look to free agency for top of the rotation starters: Cole, Tanaka, Sabathia, Mussina, Clemens, Wells, Cone, Key, etc. Actually, we have some promising home grown talent currently, if they can stay healthy and take the next step in development: Luis Severino, Jordan Montgomery, Domingo German, Deivi Garcia. The question is Why? Why can't the Yankees develop high tier starting pitching? Impatience from the front office? The wrong people in charge of amateur scouting, draft selecting and most important, player development? Bad luck? I do think think Severino can be the next great Yankee starting pitcher, if he can stay healthy. I also have high hopes for Garcia, plus we do have Montgomery and Schmidt, although both of them look more like end of the rotation, but that's not a bad thing.

The reason the Rays threw in the towel and traded their best pitcher. The reason the Cubs are selling. And they're not even in our league! Rest of baseball: JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO GO BACK IN THE WATER. 🦈 Warren. Cortez (the killer) 🦈. JAWS II... (at an alternate site near you)...

It didn’t end so well the last time. Does MAS stand for minimum assigned salary?

I hope he leaves tickets for Bill and Ted at will call.

We developed Al Downing, Jim Bouton, Al Leiter. Two of them had a 20 win-season. Arm injuries got in the way. None were long term top tier guys, but... jus saying. I think that for decades the Yanks would showcase the arms and deal them for bats...

Tanaka clarifies on his Twitter. Here is the translation:
"About my future career, some media outlets have reported that I am not considering other options but either re-sign with the Yankees or go back to Japan, this is not true. At the moment I am not limiting the teams I want to play for next season. I will consider all teams that are interested in my talent."

Common sense kicks in. If the Yankees don't want you, someone else will.

It’s time for the Yankees to shit or get off the pot with DJ. Not getting him signed is holding up the rest of their postseason. If you’re going to sign him, get it done. If you can’t get it done, start working on the rest of your moves. If you can still sign him, get it done later. No one player should be bigger than the team...Right now, he’s hurting the team... and so is the Yankee brass...
