The Yankees made some bad trades in the 80's. The Jay Buhner and Fred McGriff deals were already mentioned, here are some others: 1. October 21, 1981 - Willie McGee traded to St. Louis for P Bob Sykes. If you don't remember Skyes, there's a good reason, he never pitched for the Yankees. McGee went on to win a MVP and 2 batting titles. 2. November 26, 1986 - Doug Drabek, P Brian Fisher & P Logan Easley traded to Pittsburgh for Rich Rhoden, P Cecilio Guante and P Pat Clements. Drabek would go on to win a Cy Young and finish in the top 5 in the voting 3 times. Rhoden is best known for his golf game and for being a good hitting pithcer. 3. July 13, 1987 - Traded Bob Tewksbury, Rich Scheid and Dean Wilkins to the Cubs for Steve Trout. And on a personal note: 4. March 30, 1984 - Traded Graig Nettles to the San Diego for Dennis Rasmussen and Darin Cloninger. Ugh!!!! Man, I forgot about Doug Drabek. I was steamed about that deal. The name “Cecilio Guante” ran through my mind when Drabek won the Cy Young Award. |

My unhappiness has been with free agency notably Arod and Stanton not trades. And with the absence of trades for a quality pitcher in recent years. Arod & Stanton were both trades, unless you're referring to when Rodriquez opted out and the Yanks foolishly gave him a new 10 year contract. Well then I hated these trades. I thought they were free agency purchases. I would have given a player not to get either particularly arod one of my least favorite Yankees ever. |
