A couple of friends and I were talking beisbol... and we started lamenting on guys traded from the team we love that made us MAD.
Mine... trading Alfonso Soriano for A-Rod. I was LIVID at that. Soriano if I remember correctly was scapegoated the year before for his incredible # of Ks in the postseason.

Good idea for a thread bobbyjack!
But I racked my brain and could not think of a trade that made me angry! I can think of a few free agent signings that pissed me off (like Ellsbury [img src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/gszgVuvxUtZEFrgJSkis.gif" class="smile" alt=" "] ) but not a trade since I started following baseball in 1995. I'm sure there have been bad trades, but nothing that at the time of the trade made me upset. Maybe someone will mention a trade that will jog my memory. I loved the A-Rod trade at the time by the way.

I didn’t care for the Soriano trade, either. And Roger Maris, though I was too young to understand that he was breaking down... Al Downing was a surprise I didn’t care for...

Not even close for me: David Wells, Graham Lloyd, and Homer Bush to Toronto for Roger Clemens. Absolutely abhorred the transaction. Boomer won 37 games for the Blue Jays the next two years. Clemens is the poster boy for pitchers on steroids and HGH.

Clemens is the poster boy for pitchers on steroids and HGH. I didn’t like that one, either. Then, Bush had to pile on by winning the 2B job, hitting .320 with 32 steals. It was an illusion though. By the next season he was stopped cold by the league pitching staffs.

I remember being mildly upset following this trade:
On December 8, 1983, Steve Balboni traded by the New York Yankees with Roger Erickson to the Kansas City Royals for Duane Dewey (minors) and Mike Armstrong.
In the end, it was pitching the Yankees needed in the 1980s, not slugging.

Okay, this one cannot be overstated and should never have happened:
On October 22, 1974, Bobby Murcer traded by the New York Yankees to the San Francisco Giants for Bobby Bonds.

They traded Buhner?!?!?!? To your point - this was awful: On July 21, 1988, Jay Buhner traded by the New York Yankees with a player to be named later and Rick Balabon (minors) to the Seattle Mariners for Ken Phelps. The New York Yankees sent Troy Evers (minors) (October 12, 1988) to the Seattle Mariners to complete the trade.

This was another horrific trade:
On December 9, 1982, Fred McGriff traded by the New York Yankees with Dave Collins, Mike Morgan and cash to the Toronto Blue Jays for Tom Dodd and Dale Murray.

The Yankees made some bad trades in the 80's. The Jay Buhner and Fred McGriff deals were already mentioned, here are some others:
1. October 21, 1981 - Willie McGee traded to St. Louis for P Bob Sykes. If you don't remember Skyes, there's a good reason, he never pitched for the Yankees. McGee went on to win a MVP and 2 batting titles.
2. November 26, 1986 - Doug Drabek, P Brian Fisher & P Logan Easley traded to Pittsburgh for Rich Rhoden, P Cecilio Guante and P Pat Clements. Drabek would go on to win a Cy Young and finish in the top 5 in the voting 3 times. Rhoden is best known for his golf game and for being a good hitting pithcer.
3. July 13, 1987 - Traded Bob Tewksbury, Rich Scheid and Dean Wilkins to the Cubs for Steve Trout.
And on a personal note:
4. March 30, 1984 - Traded Graig Nettles to the San Diego for Dennis Rasmussen and Darin Cloninger. Ugh!!!!

My unhappiness has been with free agency notably Arod and Stanton not trades. And with the absence of trades for a quality pitcher in recent years.

I remember sitting by the phone waiting for the Yankees to call me for hours, and never getting that call. Mind you, I even refused to sign with any other team, and even then they passed me over as though I had no skills at all. I should hate them for that, but most of the guys they signed ahead of me did pretty good...
