Merry Christmas to all of you and thanks for another year of talking baseball (and other things). This year has been tough, for sure, but hopefully we'll all get through it safe and sound!
I think this is the 1927 Yankees, I do see Babe & Lou in the back row.

MERRY FESTIVUS TO ALL and MAY YOU ALL BE SAFE & HEALTHY!!!
This year Tequila & I are Celebrating Festivus and we are Airing our Grievances --how people disappointed us!!!
At the top of our Grievance List: --The Yankee Team in 2020 --Inger --Etc.
--12-23-20: us.cnn.com/2020/12/23/health/festivus-seinfeld-pandemic-wellness/index.html Festivus, the 'Seinfeld' holiday focused on airing grievances, is for everyone this year. The holiday comes complete with a set of traditions befitting this year of a pandemic and lockdowns and dreariness otherwise, including a drab pole instead of a brightly lit tree. Perhaps most poignant, Festivus tradition also calls for a special ceremony known as the "airing of grievances," where you get to tell the people in your life how they disappointed you. I'm sure if "Seinfeld" were still producing new episodes, they'd expand the Festivus parameters to allow you to complain about the pandemic and everything else that's upside down in your life.

Merry Christmas to all of you and thanks for another year of talking baseball (and other things). This year has been tough, for sure, but hopefully we'll all get through it safe and sound! I think this is the 1927 Yankees, I do see Babe & Lou in the back row. Ruth stands out as a “Shrek-Like” character. Huge head, and unfortunately there was no strategic attempt to hide his paunch even though he was in the back row. Gehrig with his movie-star handsome features. Whomever that is on the extreme left appears to be a physical specimen for the era. Seeing this photo of Ruth, he had a sort of frightening visage, didn’t he? One can somewhat see why he drew taunts from the opposition regarding his facial features. Many called him “The N——r” due to his broad nose and ruddy complexion. Some said he looked like an “Injun”. Much may have been trying to gain a psychological advantage over a man they couldn’t beat any other way. After reading about Hack Wilson having that condition “Fetal Alcohol Disease” the other day, I wonder if Ruth may have been similarly afflicted with either that or some similar condition due to poor prenatal nutrition or such? Broad facial features. A strange-looking gait when he ran that makes me wonder if he wasn’t pigeon-toed. I should think that belly or no, he’d be very intimidating to pitch to. Just a nice enough guy, and just mean enough that you’d wonder what he might do...I expected that Ruth would have been in better condition in ‘27. His weight varied quite a bit throughout his career. He had such a terrific season in ‘27, and was only two seasons past the famous bellyache of ‘25...

Traditions change. I remember in the late 50’s and early sixties... and for years after when the big gift advertisement was for the Norelco shaver for hubby. Now the wife is handing him the keys to a $93,000 pick up truck...
