At $4M, it appears Gardner need not worry about making the team. I suppose he’s the fourth OF in the mix, and may still get to face a few RHP in lieu of Frazier, depending on who gets off the the better start, and If Frazier or Hicks is finally ready to stay afield for a full season. The odds are pretty decent that Gardner will be in the top three Yankee outfielders in appearances again in 2021. that's a good bet with the injury history of Hicks, Stanton and Judge.

I guess this is the last major move the Yanks will make since they are close to the forbidden luxury tax level that they don't want to cross. It must be. I thought they were done following the signing of O’Day. Unless the “something” is a trade... even then, it’s made more difficult by the need to balance the books...

That pretty much puts him on the Yankees the next two years if he wants.

That pretty much puts him on the Yankees the next two years if he wants. Its a pretty cheap deal. I'm sure he's taking less to stay in NY.

I’m usually the first to warn about 38 year old players, but hey! This is Brett Gardner, men. The guy that needs to be a legacy player. The guy that always winds up doing the job somebody else was paid big bucks to do. This deal allows Brett to finish up his career unless he wants pull an Ichiro and try to play forever. I’m very pleased with it...
