Guessing this is the end of Tyler wade. This is a strange trade. Odor has a .289 career OBP, which has fallen the last two seasons. He has some power and strikes out a lot. Why another second baseman? I don’t get where he fits, unless there is another trade coming. At least Wade is a plus fielder wherever he plays, as his range is incredible. Odor cannot play anywhere but second base, and he’s not a great defender there anyway. What is up with this? I cannot figure out this move.

Odor is actually a pretty good defensive second baseman. But this Spring, the Rangers played him at 3B, which is, presumably, his future. I understand he'll initially be sent to the "Alternate Site" to keep playing 3B. Wade has an option left and can be called up in case of an injury. Odor has significant LH pop. Maybe the Yanks can get through to him in a way the Rangers couldn't. They will certainly insist he shave.

Odor is not as good defensively at second as LeMahieu or Gleyber, and Wade is better than both of them defensively. The Rangers played Odor at third in the Spring because he lost the job to Solak, and they told him that his only chance to make the team was at third base. Odor had never played third base previously and wasn’t happy about moving there. The Rangers have a player at AAA who is their future at third - probably starting next season (He might have been there this season but is injured). So, Odor would have been a placeholder anyway. But, Odor didn’t make Texas’ final roster at any position. Odor does have pop, but that all he has. He doesn’t walk and doesn’t hit for any average. Texas is effectively paying him to play for another team. Odor did punch out Bautista, which will always endear him to Yankee fans.

2:32pm: The teams have announced the trade. The Rangers acquired outfielders Josh Stowers and Antonio Cabello in return for Odor and cash. Notably, Texas announced Cabello as a catcher/outfielder, though he’s played exclusively the outfield in his minor league career to date.

It says on fb a corresponding 40 man roster move will be made today.

With Socrates Brito unlikely to make the team, and Yangervis Solarte a fading memory, the Yankees desperately needed a quirky name on the roster. I think John Sterling was behind this move. "An Odoriferous home run from Rougned."

Thanks for the update Anthony. Sorry for Estrada, but he was definitely expendable. Seems odd to demote King after his great performance in game three. It must be demoralizing for him, but he'll be back soon enough.

Not sure what this deal accomplishes other than add a left-handed bat. Looking at his stats, he seems like a 2d baseman Aaron Hicks. One of those already too many.

Though I like Odor for his name and that he punched Bautista, I'm not sure about the move strictly baseball wise. Is he really a better option than the more versatile Wade? I guess another depth piece and lefty bat doesn't hurt. Maybe he can change his career trajectory with the Yanks.
