Vlad was probably the best modern day bad ball hitter. Career .318 BA with power and plenty of speed early in his tenure. Fantastic right field arm. Fun guy to watch. He, Clemente and Berra were three outstanding bad ball hitters. I love it when guys go against the book and make it work. You know, Guerrero has to be one of the four. He was close to 40-40 early in his career.

What's the question? I was watching another game. Which 4 players were one homer from a 40-40 season. 4? That's a lot of guys to just miss.

Wandy may just push Justin Wilson into a Jonathan Holder role.

Chone Figgins seemed to kill the Yanks. I went to many a Yankees- Angels game at The Big A, and back then most of the crowd rooted for the Yankees. Lots of "Angels Suck" chants. It was almost embarrassing. Almost. I remember a Yankee pitcher named Ed Yarnall making his first big league start there back in the late 90s. Ed Yarnall was a World Series Champion at LSU. Was part of the trade for Denny Neagle. That train whistle wore out its welcome quickly. You are our official Bayou Bengal referant. When I was a kid Paul Dietzel was the football coach. Billy Cannon, Jerry Stovall. Great memories of Saturday night football.

4? That's a lot of guys to just miss. I cheated and looked here's a hint 3 had 39 hr 40 sb one had 39 hr 43 sb Eric Davis was close in the 1980s. That guy was an exciting player, just couldn’t stay healthy. Played one way: all out all the time. Led to many wall collisions.

He was overshadowed by his son, but he was a great player in his own right. Even though he was considered a bit of a disappointment because he was supposed to be Willie Mays. Just like Bobby Murcer, who the Yanks traded for Bonds, was supposed to be Mickey Mantle.

My first college semester, Stovall was the football coach at LSU. He was a better player than coach, but a wonderful human being. Very unassuming, humble, down to earth personality.

They make too much of these new minor feats like the immaculate inning. Frankly, I find a 3 pitch inning to be more immaculate than 3 strikeouts without throwing a ball...

But injuries shortened his career too if memory serves.
