Imagine what it's like pinch-hitting against Chapman right now, what do you look for?

This team looks completely turned around for the most part. I would like a little more run production, but I mean the starters are going length, the bullpen looks good, Chapman looks the best he has in years, Stanton has actually hit most of the season. Long way to go, but wasn't long ago when the Rays swept the Yankees in Yankee Stadium and they were in last place.

So the Yankees win the series. They had lost six straight series to these guys. I doubt that has happened many times in Yankee history. Only Elias Sports Bureau knows for sure.

Checking in guys. Wow. 1-0. Cole is the AL DeGrom... Inger, did your wife fly into Pueblo? And yes, were her arms tired? She flew into CS. Best we can tell if you want to fly into Pueblo, you have to land first in CS. Then they strap you to a giant paper air plane and launch you toward Pueblo... if you pay for first class you get a Balsa wood plane...

Cole with a brilliant 8 innings 4 hits 0 runs 0 walks and 12 strikeouts. And, against a team that usually throttles us and did so tonight. A mere sacrifice fly puts the lone run on the board. The Yankees did manage 6 hits, of which 3 were courtesy of Aaron Judge and 2 from Gio Urshela. Though we may never see Stanton and Judge hot at the same time, at least one of them has been hitting when the other is not.

It’s too early to start speaking in historical perspective, but Cole’s ERA is now 1.37. If we get to the point where we are looking at historical perspective it will be important to do the comparison using ERA+. I never saw this drop in scoring coming, to be honest. Not to this degree. MLB is taking an awful lot of liberties with the game and equipment hoping to fool us into believing the product is booming. I’m so doing, they are damaging the product, perhaps irreparably...

Even with offenses crashing, Cole's ERA+ is 249. And Kluber is 130, with Monty and German right on the line at 101 and 100. ERA+ was one of my favorite new toys when The Geek Squad began devising these things 20 or so years ago. It actually enhances, rather than obscuring, understanding of the game for a typical fan.
