The good news is that Jameson Taillon struck out 9 batters tonight, which gives him 43 total in 7 starts. The bad news is that he has thrown a total of 33.1 innings, fewer than 5 innings per start. In those 33.1 innings, Taillon has given up 20 earned runs for a 5.40 ERA; however, his WHIP is a very respectable 1.20. He’s coming off two years off. The Yankees stated early on the they wanted to bring him along slowly. I think all things considered, he’s done okay... The staff this year has several in that category, German, Kluber and Taillon, not to mention Seve. They could turn out to be the best staff in the league or terrible or anything in between. Didn't count on the hitting being so bad, though. Can't cover up any poor pitching while the staff rounds into shape.

We didn’t count on this revised baseball that has reduced offense for all 30 teams to a degree not seen since the late sixties either. We’re bad, and that’s not good, but there are others doing equally poorly. Some even worse...

They def gotta have some more consistent hitting. The pitching for the most part seems to be turning a corner.

Even when they win, this team is dreadful to watch. Strikeouts, double plays, errors, awful base running, .200 batting averages and bad managerial decisions is what we see every game. I actually think we have the pitching to win, but this lineup reminds me of all the other line ups we've had that didn't hit in the playoffs. Baseball is imploding on to itself. Stupid decisions to speed up the game are killing off the one true fan base, old farts like me. I've loved baseball for 60 years and will love it until I die, but right now I don't feel like I'm getting any love back.
One thing I do love is waking up each morning and reading the game thread. I know I don't participate during the games that much, my wife keeps me busy at night (not what you're thinking inger), but I do check in from time to time. Finding baseball brethren such as yourselves gets harder all the time, but I can always count on you guys to make laugh, think and dream.
Okay, that's enough of a rant for one day. Just feeling a little nostalgic this morning. Hoping the bats come alive in Baltimore this weekend. Don't worry baseball, I'm not leaving you for Nascar or tennis, you will always be my one true love.

I remember sniglet jokes... Hah. Pretty close. Hall, Hill, they all run together. Weird, I was just telling my wife about sniglets yesterday. She had never heard of them.

Its getting tough to watch these games. Glad you are at least enjoying the game threads!

Excellent post...Much of it is reflective of the way I feel about the sport, and this forum as well...

Don't worry baseball, I'm not leaving you for Nascar or tennis, you will always be my one true love. I hear you, my man. The base running is perplexing because it’s the one item that can easily be fixed, yet we’ve witnessed it for years now. For me, the lack of hitting is the worst. Looking at the team stats last night, the Yankees were second in homers to the Blue Jays, yet 11 of 15 in slugging and 12 of 15 in hits and also in doubles. This team just has not hit. Boston has essentially double the number of doubles and over 80 more hits! That’s a lot of action on the bases and in the field that the Yankees are just not supplying. If there is one fragment of optimism to hold onto, just about every Yankee hitter is due, especially Frazier, Torres, Voit, and DJLM. I don’t list Sandwich or Hicks, because I believe this is who they are. Stanton and Judge will have some gaudy power numbers if they continue at their current clips.

At least as of Thursday, the Yankees ranked dead last in all of baseball for runners thrown out on the basepaths in general and on runners thrown out at home in particular.
Phil Nevin, you can't quarantine forever.
Less important in the overall scheme of things but still reflective of poor basepath IQ is that they are also last in stolen bases with seven. Stolen bases may be less important now than in the past, but when base hits are as hard to come by as they are at present, maybe some occasional well-targeted bag theft is in order.
This is mostly a coaching issue.
The Yankees have had many less talented teams than this one in my lifetime, but I am not sure they have had one as stupid.
