I watched the last play just now (damn blackouts) on MLB.com. The first guy out of the dugout was Gerrit Cole. Nobody looked happier. And, after his worst start this season. True leader of the pitching staff. Rising tide lifts all K/BB ratios.

Kluber threw 71 of 101 pitches for strikes: 31 curveballs, 27 cutters, 23 sinkers, 18 changeups and two four-seam fastballs.

Boone said he got nervous on the ball Dahl hit, thinking it was going to get down the line, but then noticed what a good jump Wade had gotten on the ball.
"I knew I was going to catch it," Wade said. "I didn't know if I was going to have to dive or catch it like I did. But I knew I was going to catch it."
It just doesn’t matter where you put Tyler Wade. He’s going to give you a top notch defensive effort. And, even if he doesn’t get a good jump in the outfield, he can outrun a lot of mistakes.

Same here. I don’t know if Judge catches that ball or not. Those long loping strides cover a good amount of ground, but not as much as Wade’s smooth greyhound like strides...

All night long the ump has allowed Kluber to lick his fingers. I know some times when it’s cold, they let the pitchers blow on their hands. This has been a blatant lick of at least the index and middle fingers. He then makes a wiping motion on his uniform, but is he actually wiping the saliva off? ... Opinions?... One final bump. I don’t care as long as he got away with it, but it may be something to watch going forward. Some opposing manager may press the issue before the season is over... |

That’s what I figured. But you know I’m a realist. I saw what I saw. Those pitches were moooooooving a lot. Whatever it was it was fun and entertaining. I started thinking no-hitter in the the third inning because the Rangers were swinging at balls they had no chance of squaring and even some they couldn’t reach. A celebration of human saliva is still a celebration!... |

Then we go to Texas and I swear EVERYBODY hit a triple... 2 in three games, anyway... Those big outfield gaps certainly change the game. And those weird little angles out there too... |
