I think Sanchez is far worse now behind the plate than before. He's lost weight and he's improved his agility but as Cone pointed out last night, his biggest problem has been cross ups with his pitchers and not quickness or lack of quickness in blocking balls in the dirt. I just don't get how he can constantly not be on the same page with his pitcher. Do the two of them not go over pitch selection and strategy before the game? At this point, it's ridiculous how many catchable balls get past him, and then when you consider how bad he's been all year at the plate, I'd start Romine for the Wild Card game. It's all about winning right now and I feel Romine gives the team a better chance than Sanchez. I wonder if the problems are more mental than physical at this point. I think that once the playoffs are over, that Sanchez take a month or two away from the game- and maybe visit one of the sports "performance visualization" guys- the ones who claim that they put clients in a frame of mind to visualize success. Maybe its just me, but when you look at his facial expressions, he looks like a guy who is already beaten before he starts. I'm sure all this happening to Gary, while he's playing in New York, has taken its toll. It's much easier to get away from this kind of play in Pittsburgh.

Hopefully he emerges out the back end of this a better player and a stronger man...

Gleyber Torres was in the original starting lineup but was scratched due to minor hip/groin area discomfort. Boone expects the rookie to be back in Wednesday night’s lineup.

Didi Gregorius (wrist) has been cleared to resume baseball activities.
Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay broke the news on his radio show Wednesday, stating that "the injection that they had given him in his wrist is obviously working -- they found the right spot -- and he is a go." Kay added that Gregorius will likely play in a game or two this weekend in preparation for the postseason. It's great news, as there was some thought that the shortstop could be done for the year when he was diagnosed last Saturday with cartilage damage in his right wrist.

Good news for sure. Sounds like we dodged two bullets with both Didi and Hicks. The way the Yanks have been hit with injuries this year, the moment homefield advantage is secured, I would keep the regulars in protective custody somewhere. Lots of Tyler Wade and Kyle Higashioka. Bring back Shane Robinson and Jace Peterson and stick Ellsbury in the outfield with them, even if he's in his pj's and using a walker. George Kontos and David Hale and Kei Igawa can pitch every inning of every remaining game, I don't care.
It doesn't seem like Oakland is that exercised about the home field business. Melvin rested both Davis and Piscotty last night.

Must get Higgy going or we're doomed.

Didn't realize Neil/Todd injured himself. His HBP was in the shin...He walked to first but was pulled immediately. Heck, the shin bone would almost seem to be the one bone in the body that you could find a break in it without resorting to imagery...
