Why are you late on that Staton? That was middle middle. It would have been better to let him rehab in the minors for a week.

Judge continues to get more bad calls than anybody in the game. Why isn't the team screaming about it relentlessly?

Old Man Gittens is a classic tough love father. Seems like he has the attitude of Mutt Mantle. Solid guy.

When you read Death in the Afternoon or The Dangerous Summer, a tour of Spain seems a necessity. My sister had a wonderful friend who was born in Spain. She wanted Sarah and me to accompany her there one summer in order to help convince my sister to go. Unfortunately, she died of cancer before we could make the arrangements. I’ve been to bullfights in Mexico, but I always wanted to retrace Hemingway’s steps in his beloved Spain. It's very easy to follow his path in Navarre and La Rioja and the Basque Country. Still remarkably similar to what he saw, even the streams where he went fishing aren't difficult to find. A few years ago my wife and I went to hike The Camino de Santiago in the north of Spain. Because I was still working, I had to drop out after 200 miles, although she did the full 500 or so. Much of this goes through Hemingway's places, and is well-marked. Pamplona itself is easy to see through his eyes, including the Cafe Iruna which is much the same, although obviously happy to cash in on its tourist appeal. The hotel he frequented (Montoya?) is still on the plaza, under a different name. There is naturally a statue of him in front of the bullring. Rioja became part of our daily life. Although not in anything close to the quantities Ernest and his louche pals consumed. Hemingway used to stay at his friend Juanito Quintana’s Hotel Montoya in the Plaza del Castillo. Quintana became Juanito Montoya in The Sun Also Rises. Did you happen to go to the Paternina Winery?
