Yankees are now 3-6 in extra inning games this season. At first that seems surprising since the Yankees the Yankees have such a good bullpen, but they are so bad at situational baseball that it kills them in these late, close games. Situational baseball. Interpretation: Scoring runs…

I dunno it's hard to put to words like I don't see the Rays or Red Sox as world beaters both are beatable, but it just seems like the Yankees never win enough games to make super progress in the standings and in the rare times they do they quickly lose it. You may be right that the Yankees have enough talent on their roster to win. I see woeful holes, but maybe it is just the way they play together. They seem to be less together than the sum of the parts. Reminds me of an old billiard player who commented on another player just before he challenged him to some serious money games. "He plays just good enough to lose". The Yankees are playing like that. What superstars are really on the Rays?

Let me pose a question to you and the board. Suppose, just suppose, that tomorrow all of the Tampa roster became Yankees. And, all the Yankee roster became Rays. Managers stayed where they now are. Would the Yankees (now Rays) start playing better under Kevin Cash? Would the Rays (now Yankees) continue to win at this rate under Boone?

Meadow and Arozarena are pretty big pieces. They win with top level pitching and defense, add in some speed. Game plans and strategy. Kind of like those old 94 Yankees. They play team ball, and they play it well …

I want to say yes, because its apparent ownership has a hold over Boone that effects some of these stupid decisions.

1. I think the Yankees (now Rays) would start playing better under Cash. He seems to get more out of his roster than one would think. Could it be the Yankee (now Rays) players start to feel less entitled, and more like a small market team, and gel as a cohesive group?.
2. I don't think Boone is a terrible manager, but I think the Rays (now Yankees) would regress.
I feel something is wrong in the Bronx. You can't fire the player, but you can remake your roster. You can fire your GM and manager and start with a new approach. I don't know what else makes sense to change what has gone on for too long. It's sad.

They need upper management that will let the manager manage the on the field game and a manager w/ a better feel for the game (Boone might even be that guy if they let him manage instead of passing down strategy..)

If you mean upper management as ownership, how do you change that? The Steins will not accept that they are at fault. I don't see that they absolutely are at fault, anyway. The problem is at the GM and Manager level. Throw in piss-poor development from the farm, and you have the cluster* that is the Yankees. This from a formerly Die-hard Yankee fan. I am not a troll. Apologies to all if I seem other than a seriously disillusioned and disappointed Yankee fan.

We’re all trolling a bit these days. I blame it on the Steinbrenners because Hal has stated that they must stay under the luxury tax. This limits the moves Cashman can make. That limits the moves Boone can make. Cashman has done a pretty good job of keeping the big league roster fully competitive without doing a standard roster strip down like most teams do. Dumpster-diving has become a way of life, and once in a while you find a Luke Voit in there. Sometimes you get Odor…

I see your points and they are well-taken. THE BOLD ABOVE: I think it is shameful that small market clubs, year over year, put a better, more exciting, more likeable product on the field than the Yankees. Everyone who has any responsibility for that in the Bronx should be deeply ashamed. Hal especially because he has allowed this to become happen without taking CEO action. THE ITALLICIZED ABOVE: Most years they have been competitive, if only enough to get one of the playoff berths. No WS appearance since 2009? Unacceptable for this proud and storied franchise. Except for the CBS years, this is the worst team I have ever seen. That is squarely on Cashman and Boone. If Dumb and Dumber are not replaced before or at season end, I think I will withdraw, or start being a Tampa fan for awhile. I have gone from hating them to grudging admiration for what they do.
