Yes. Without a doubt. He’s deserving, and fighting his mental demons on the route makes him all the greater. We still don’t know the end of his story either. He’s a true pitcher. He’s throwing stuff up there at 62 MPH and getting people out. He might even eventually get into el Tiante territory with a 47 MPH curve ball. Based on physics alone, I don’t know what the minimum speed that would be required to reach the plate with a pitched ball, but I suspect Tiant was getting close to the limit at times. More thoughts want to come out about the proposed new mound distance of 61’6”… I’m trying to hold back… here they come… No. not yet. Wrong time and place… I think. Stop. Can’t say it right now… I've heard 40-something mph is the minimum to get it to the plate. Remember that guy for about 2 years threw his fastball in the low 70's. Think he won 20 one year. Randy Jones, maybe? Padres? Yep. Randy Jones. I’d venture that Moyer was getting into that area at the end, too. The great slow ballers. Maybe Cortes will join them one day. Wouldn’t it be great to see him pitching in a Yankee uniform for 15 more years, dominating? …

Stupid Altuve.
Should have run full speed from the beginning Locastro.
Yep, doesn’t how fast you are if you don’t run hard to first.

He was 42-26 in ‘75-‘76, while the Padres won 144 and lost 180. That would be 102-154 when Jones didn’t get the decision. He was bordering on Carlton great for those two years… He won the Cy Young at 26. He was never the same after. It’s not always true that soft tossers last a long time…

He hurt his arm toward the end of the season in which he won the Cy, and that was pretty much it for him. He is the only CYA winner to retire with a losing record. But you're right, he played for some awful teams. He was a fine pitcher for several years before he was injured.
