So we change the rules of baseball just so the media can gush over Ohtani further. Correction: we are simply changing the rules for one exhibition game. What we are doing though is stretching our imagination to believe a pitcher of modest accomplishment is properly being sssignrd as the starting pitcher in the All-Star Game…

On top of the location change On top of half the roster declining to play in this game

It's been years since I watched more than an inning or two of an All Star Game, if anything at all, and that won't change this year. Just can't get interested. Obviously neither can some of the players. Maybe Manfred is all aglow.
It used to be a big deal for everyone who cared about baseball. Just a step below the World Series in the days before inter-league play took away much of the mystique. There was a serious rivalry between the leagues, and ordinary fans actually cared who won.
I don't criticize anyone who still gets into it, just personally I don't.

So we change the rules of baseball just so the media can gush over Ohtani further. They changed the rules of the game for the past two years with their ghost runners on 2nd base during extra innings and 7 inning double headers. It's hard to get worse that that.

As a kid, it was such a thrill to see how your team’s representative would perform with and against the best players in the game. Some of the clashes of National League players vs. American League pitchers, you couldn’t wait to see. Mike Schmidt vs. Jim Palmer, Willy McCovey vs. Nolan Ryan, Steve Carlton vs. Reggie Jackson, Dave Parker vs. Ron Guidry. These were players who never faced each other except during a Spring Training game or the World Series. The players were just as eager to match themselves against the best they had never seen before live, much less faced in person. No ESPN, no YouTube, no inter league play. Just box scores, the occasional televised game, and sports writers. There was an alluring and mysterious nature to the game. Now, it’s a contrived chore for the players, especially those who’ve already been there.

The brainiacs at MLB outdo themselves yet again, pitting Soto vs Ohtani in 1st round. Just lost a lot of TV viewers now that Ohtani is out. Though it was a fun duel, shoulda been in late rounds.

The production of this whole thing is a farce, they're not even following the flight of all the balls and are rarely giving HR distances.
