Post game interview with Rizzo: Long, tough and emotional day for Rizzo, leaving a team with which he won a World Series and spent nine years of his career. Disbanded from a close knit group of athletes in a couple days, including his best friend Kris Bryant. Leaving behind a very successful foundation based in Chicago and a group of teammates who were extremely careful during the pandemic in large part because of Rizzo’s former fight with leukemia. But, he gets paid big bucks for playing a game we all love. As I said elsewhere, he’s an easy guy to like and that will become obvious in a short period of time. Far more than anything else, Rizzo never seems to take anything for granted. Great start.

Chapman didn’t allow a run or a hit; however, he probably took a step backwards tonight with regard to his release point. He was effectively wild and got the save, but he was helped greatly by the Marlins hitters in the ninth. And, Chapman seems to know it, as he immediately started to critique his performance with Sanchez even as he began walking off the mound. He also hasn’t flashed that game-ending stare recently, knowing he’s not where he needs to be.

His slider was totally off. No splitters thrown. Hopefully he does better next time. Its always an adventure with him these days it seems.

For my birthday, my wife gave me a shopping bag full of baseball cards she bought for $10 from a kid at a yard sale. Mostly 90's and early 2000's. Can't wait to read the back of all of them.
Also, a friend gave me all 7 seasons of one of my favorite shows, "Homicide": Life on the Street.
And the Yanks win. It was a great day!

Your wife sounds like a sweetheart! Tell us about some of those baseball cards you find! Have you seen The Wire on HBO? It’s my favorite show of all time. It was created by David Simon who wrote the book “Homicide” was based on.

I've also read his book a couple of times. So great!

Then my perception that he’s been pretty much a waste for a couple months is right. Funny how much a very hot streak can bridge up a slash line, isn’t it? He is so very stubborn-looking as he approaches his at bats with that ferocious scowl and refuses to tinker with his stance. I hate the way he hits his bottom out and has that downward slope to his front shoulder. The closed stance, the stiffness. Apparently he’s mimicking his stance from his 59- homer season. I think he’s a different hitter now and needs to be willing to adjust. I doubt he’s much of a student for any batting coach. Now, of course he’ll hit seven home runs tonight without making a single change, but at least I said what I think…

Too bad the garage sale didn’t have cards from the 50’s and 60’s, but we take what we can from a garage sale. Have fun rifling through them! … TV series are not my thang so much, but I good you enjoy those, too…

Another problem is Gary Sanchez since June 26: .152/.295/.342/.637. Stanton since June 27: .208/.315/.333/.649 Gardner since June 30: .172/.290/.259/.548 LeMahieu since June 30: .241/.344/.291/.635 Yet, Florial was sent down after a wonderful start: .300/.440/.550/.990

LaMarre’s only sin was being here, so he’s been cast aside. Add Nestor Cortes with his surprising performance now being cast aside for Heaney. It seems impossible to me that Cortes is only 26. But he’s being treated more like a circus act than an actual long term prospect. Cessa has done well, but he’s gone now in favor of some guys that have peripherals and more upside if the the coaching voo doo can turn them into consistent ground ball pitchers. Not everyone on this team has contributed, and only a few that have are being rewarded. It seems you have to have a history of having done something in the past or have perceived potential to be desirable. ..
