The Yankees were on a roll, sweeping the Marlins on the road with their newest reinforcements before running into the juggernaut that is the Baltimore Orioles. Pitchers with ERAs north of 5.00 continue to frustrate Yankee batters with near no hitters and shutouts. Alas, tonight, Alexander Wells takes his 5.28 ERA into Yankee Stadium; however, the left-hander is only 24 years old, making his third big league start. The Yankees counter with Luis Gil (pronounced ‘heel’), a 23 year old right-hander from the Dominican Republic. Gil has a 5.64 ERA at Scranton Wilkes-Barre over eight starts.
Let’s hope the Yankees leave behind their tortilla flat performance of last night with Kaybli’s calamari, mussels, and baked ziti birthday meal.

Greg Allen (S) CF A much better-crafted appearing line up than the Boonies of the past. Rizzo in the two hole is a much better-qualified hitter to mo be runners along. I’ve long wanted to see Judge batting third. Stanton fourth makes no sense since he’s become almost an automatic strike out and double play machine, but when you have the same thing in Sanchez and basically nothing in Torres, what can you do? Much to my surprise, Odor has started to become a more valuable piece than I dreamed he could be. He seems to be giving up a bit of his power for contact. I remember playing as a kid when we would let smaller kids play that day and someone would get the bright idea of letting the little kids bat first and second to “get the outs out of the way”…

If only our young guy out of AAA can frustrate our opponents like theirs do ours… Yanks best minor league pitcher this season is probably LP Ken Waldichuk in AA. Yanks drafted him out of St. Mary's in the 5th round in 2019. 6-1, 73.2 IP, 42 hits, 37 BB's, 117 K's, 1.95 ER. He pitched a 6 inning shutout last Friday. Don't like the walks, but the K's are amazing.

Don't like the walks, but the K's are amazing. The low hit rate is also impressive. I’d accept a higher walk rate for a premium BA against. All in all, only 79 baserunners (assuming no HBP) in 73.2 innings, so a 1.07 WHIP. If the hits start creeping up, then the walks are an issue. I used to love Sid Fernandez with his low hit counts. The only issue that stifled him from greatness was high pitch counts. Hard to have both a high walk rate and K rate without a high pitch count. Interesting prospect desousa! … You’re my go to for prospect info! …

No pinch hits from Gio tonight. He was placed on the 10 day IL with hamstring strain, retroactive to 8-1.

No pinch hits from Gio tonight. He was placed on the 10 day IL with hamstring strain, retroactive to 8-1. Seems as though the rule is a bit loose there. If a player has be used as a ph, it seems he shouldn’t be able to be called retroactively disabled. Oh well. Is what it is…
