This is tomorrow's game thread. I won't be available tomorrow and I have had the honor of doing this for 20 years on the Yankee board (under many ownerships). Dennis Gomes was a valued member of this board (one of the few that posted on the game threads of that era) his user name was Trane. He died in the attack on the World Trade Center and we have done this thread ever since to honor him. www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/memorial/people/3896.html

Not sure if you remember me, it’s been 20 years. But I was swamped as the moderator on the ‘bbq’ board over at TSB that day. I did a search for trane tonight and this board came up. I just wanted to say I’ve never forgotten, will never forget. Still a NJ Devils fan …. anyway, just wanted to say hi to those who knew me, and to honor trane in some way on this awful anniversary.

I was not on the boards at that time, but I think its awesome you came around to pay your respects! Thank you for your post. We will honor trane forever in these parts!

I never posted with Dennis so far as I can recollect, but I appreciate how he sort of represents every name on that memorial to us. Noetsi’s annual remembrance is something I look forward to. My posting experiences started around 1994 on the old Prodigy Baseball Forums. When that went dark I did too, but I revived the experience on Pinstripes Plus. If I recall that was in 2005. Much too late for Trane’s life time. It seems he made quite an impression as a poster. Thanks for visiting with us, and don’t be shy about hanging around or popping on from time to time. Sometimes I want to kick myself for the time I spend on here. Other times I realize why I can’t leave. This is one of them…

I was the administrator of the political boards for fanhome where Dennis posted (he posted on the Yankee boards there not the political ones). I was how I found out Dennis died - his wife let us know. I posted with him a few times or more accurately read his post. There weren't a huge number of yankee posters. Joeseadog who ran the board then set up a scholarship for his child.

I’ve been on Yankee Boards/Forums (and occasionally Red Sox Forums) since the mid-1990s. My sobriquet has always been some form of Rizzuto (Rizzuto, Rizzuto3) because that’s my real surname. I recall the names Trane, Joeseadog, etc. and the personalities though the conversations have tumbled together across the years. My activity waxed and waned with life’s intermittent obstacles, emergencies and distractions. Thank you for dropping by and paying your respects; it means more than you know. Please consider joining or at least visiting our ragged band of Yankee brethren. Great to hear a name from the past.

Thanks for taking the effort to find us and stopping by to honor Trane. I was posted on Yankee boards at Fanhome during those times, so I talked baseball many times with Trane. I remember us debating about the value of Shane Spencer but I can't remember which side of fence either one of us was on and it really doesn't matter. As long our little group is still together, we'll honor Dennis "Trane" Gnomes on September 11th.

I recall those discussions, if not the very same ones, some like them. Spencer was like Luke Voit’s scatterbrained but athletic little brother. That is, until his leg injury. He was never the same afterward. His Roy Hobbs like 1998 cameo was amazing.

According to Spencer, his throw was the best he ever made, it was the cutoff men who were in the wrong place.
