Crap like this has happened to this team all season.
Depressing truth. On the other hand, there for a while we seemed to score a run on a wild pitch every time we got the bases loaded. We turned two triple plays behind a questionable Chapman in a matter of days. The breaks have probably more than evened out in our favor. I’m talking about breaks, not things like Torres errors… those are mostly just bad baseball…

Ever notice this bad stuff happens more when Torres and Sanchez are on the field?

Whats crazy is the problem usually is the Yankees can hit, but not pitch, however, just looked at the stats they are 2nd in the AL and 5th in the MLB in ERA at 3.73 only the Astros are ahead at 3.69 in the AL. So its totally possible the Yankees could have the lowest ERA in the league by season end which I don't even know the last time they did that.

I've noticed. They are the two Yankees with the least situational awareness. Well, them and Boone.
I can't believe we lost. And I am pretty pessimistic.
What do, or I know about anything? How many times have I left this team for dead this year? How many times have you? As a matter of course, probably at least twice as many times as I have. In Strat-O-Matic, baseball is a literal roll of the dice. In actual baseball, it’s a figurative roll.
Hot streaks. Cold streaks. Ups and downs. We shall see…
I think the issue is more fundamental we can't hit and can't field and won't correct these problems. We lived on home runs and nothing else and now home runs are not as common. Our pitching is devastated by injuries. If we ever are going to win WS again we need to break this team down and start from scratch. And Cashman is not the GM to do that he avoids risks.

I believe this offseason will be more than a little interesting. I know our pitching has been devastated by injuries but our pitching has really not been that bad. Green has given up some big home runs lately but Chapman has seemed to right the ship and Cortes and Montgomery have been good. I hope we don't go into another season with Torres and Sanchez being in the starting lineup(but I bet Sanchez is). I know Boone wouldn't do it but the thought went through my mind last night that it sure would be nice if Higgy was catching that last inning. I hoped Torres would improve defensively this year but he has not. Noetsi I agree with you that changes need to be made. It seems that from reading on this board that most of our top prospects are at least a year away. Maybe we have to live with it for a while but in the meantime having Wade and Gardner in the lineup seems to give us better defense and more speed. I was guilty of saying Gardner was washed up earlier in the year but I was wrong. I said the same thing about Wade. Wrong again. In my opinion Gardner is one of our top 4-5 position players and he is 3rd on the team in games played. Interesting decisions to be made.
I think the owner is ok with mediocre as long as he makes money. We will see.
It is hard to see how we will improve significantly offensively next year. The problem with Yankee prospects is they rarely pan out. Garcia, Frazier, Andujar, Schmidt its a long list.
I think trying to improve speed, defense, and learning how to bunt probably is our best chances. But I doubt any of the starters could learn to bunt.

A new manager is useful.
You’re damning the Yankees with an industry-wide issue, which is that no team has all of anywhere close to all of their prospects “turn out”. You are also damning Schmidt and Garcia as flops prematurely considering their ages and current positions.
Frazier is an unpredictable situation whom we actually inherited from Cleveland with a certified bill of health. And Andujar? How could you say he “didn’t turn out”. You yourself were lauding him and pushing for his promotion and insertion into the starting line up just yesterday. Turn out, he did. He did so with a bang. But another side of this sport is injuries. Even Frazier has had his moments, but injuries have certainly been a major issue.
