Jordan Montgomery has allowed three runs or fewer in 23 of 28 starts this season with a 3.55 ERA overall. Unfortunately, the Yankees’ lineup rarely delivers runs for him. Montgomery (3.7) has the third highest WAR on the team, behind Gerrit Cole (5.8) and Aaron Judge (5.2). Yankees only produced four hits last night and still won, so the hope is another game one offensive outburst. The wild card is Eduardo Rodriguez, who seems to throttle us regularly though he gives up right at five earned runs per game (4.97 ERA). In the four games that Rodriguez has pitched against us this season (three starts, one relief appearance), the Red Sox are 4-0 in those games. Time to punch his ticket this season while bringing out McBroom.

Montgomery has been an excellent number two starter all year who should be well into double-digit victories with even average run support. It has to be wearing on him, between the lack of offense and getting pulled early from games. Time for the Yanks to pay him back with a big outburst tonight.
Egads, A-Rod and "Matty" in the booth, I assume. I would rather listen to the Sox broadcast, and that's not hyperbole.
And on that subject-- I caught a little of ex-Sox broadcaster Don Orsillo doing the Braves-Padres game last night. That guy is a real pro in my book. I never heard the rationale for them letting him go. Maybe he wasn't enough of a homer.

Orsillo has bounced back nicely, doing games for the Padres and FOX on the national level.

Yankees and Red Sox are tied for the 1st wild card and the home field advantage that goes with it, so this is a huge swing game. The Yankees going to the sweep in Fenway!

I saw something on Twitter that I wish I had copied. Don't know if it's true, but thought it was funny. Bryce Harper once texted Stanton and said he should come play for the Nationals. Stanton replied something like, I would but you know my last name spelled backward is Not Nats.

WTF! Where is Voit? Boone must really not like him.

WTF! Where is Voit? Boone must really not like him. Stanton has been hot, and Gardner has been playing well. Rizzo is the better defender, more versatile with the bat, and he hammers lefties - severe reverse splits (.905 OPS). I said this after the trade deadline: unless an injury occurs, Voit has no place on the team other than right handed power, which the Yankees have in abundance.

Boone's staying with the hot hand.

So of course the stupid Blue Jays won. Oh well just win the game today and go from there. Yankees have the advantage over them now they are the ones ahead not behind.

They still can finish off the Blue Jays in that series even with the Blue Jays winning today so thats what you want to do ideally. Just keep winning.

Boone's staying with the hot hand. Voit was also the hot hand until Boone sacked him, but there are other factors, like not wanting to play Stanton in the field all that much and Gardner playing his best ball of the season.
