MLB has tried to implement rules to speed up play but clearly they have not been effective. I like the pitch clock but somebody has to enforce it. If I am correct a batter, with few exceptions, cannot leave the batter's box once he begins his at bat. Some batters take advantage of that but keep one foot in the box and then take forever to adjust their pads, gloves, jock straps, etc. If there was a pitch clock let the same rule apply to the hitter. There are a lot of baseball purists that would argue against any rule that changes what they believe is the sanctity of the game. I would also guess the MLBPA does not want to see many changes. Pass a reasonable time between pitches rule, and enforce it, and enforce the batter's box rule. Those two relatively minor tweaks would help. An ideal solution for me living on the east coast is to start every game at 6:00 Eastern time zone so I can stay awake. Then I could live with a Boston-Yankees game lasting 4 hours. It’s a lot easier to live with long games living in the MT than it used to be on the ET. The game ending at 9:30-10:00 is still a pain because I sit here and watch it get too dark to even go out and do some little job I was thinking about. But then unless there are extra innings at least I’m not still up at 1:00 AM. But it IS too much time to dedicate to watching a sport. Get out there and play, and get it over with…

Maybe they could do like golf--if the game falls behind a certain pace you put the teams on the clock.

The pitch clock is overdue. I hope they institute it for next year.

The pitch clock is overdue. I hope they institute it for next year. Agreed. And, let the batters step out of the box, as long as the pitcher delivers the ball to the plate on time and the strike called, the batters will stop their needless rituals in no time.

And this would change the mindset of the players, where they don't have to waste time in between pitches, like they do now.

Of course, there might be that ONE time where a hitter really DID get dirt blown into his eye. Then the pitch happens to smack him in the jaw. I hate that what should be common sense has to be legislated…

Looking for sympathy here. I got robbed, in a nice community, for the second time in six months. I lost about 1000 dollars which is a lot on my limited means. Where is my violin.

I will play a viola for you Russ, no tiny violin. That really sucks. I’ve had a few things “pilfered” from me a few times, but never a full on robbery or burglary. It does feel very personal when you find out that someone valued something you own enough to take it from you. Do you have any idea who robbed you? …

Just need to avoid having money at my house. Part of the problem is I just can't accept someone is a thief. That bothers me at a basic level. The last time I decided I just threw it away accidently, but this time that seems less likely.

Sorry to hear that, Russ. If you have been targeted twice, it may likely happen again in a few months, especially if you live alone and have regular habits and work hours. You may want to consider installing an electronic device like Ring, while not guaranteed it may deter some likely intruders and perhaps capture some visible evidence.

My handicapped son was going somewhere with a friend and went into the bathroom to get a bath and get dressed to go while the friend waited for him. It was obvious that the guy took advantage of the situation to wander the house, found my pocket knives and absconded with them. My son defended him to the ends of the Earth, but there had not been anyone else in the house except the two of us after my separation. It was obvious, not provable, but still disturbing. $200-$300 worth of knives, all a sunk cost with value only to me. I’d carry one for a while, then switch off and carry another one. A rosewood handle. An all stainless steel. A couple more traditional look folding knives, etc..

At one point, my wife was trying to get me a Randall Knife for outdoor/fishing use, until she realized that there was a two- year waiting limit to have one made and the price exorbitant. Speaking of which, one of my favorite Texas singer-songwriters was Guy Clark (RIP), who had a song called Randall Knife:

What a talent it is to be able to write poems or stories that can tell a tale, them be set to music. Yet, here’s proof that the tune can be unimportant…
