I’m going to make a public apology to all the Joey’s who may find out I said the name was effeminate and might come to Pueblo West to beat me up. Neighboring Pueblo has a fine upstanding Italian community and rumors still abound that mafia families vacation in Pueblo under a code that the leave “business” at home. It’s supposedly like a DMZ for mafia.
Catacombs under the city supposedly allow them free passage without being seen by non-Mafiosa. I’d like to look into that further, but I think it’s best left alone.
Even mafia types like to take a vacation in peace, where they can go to dinner with the family, etc.. Maybe go out on the reservoir without concern of sleeping with the fishes, right? No concrete shoes.
Anyways. Hey, Joey. Just kidding’, you know? No harm meant. I even knew a guy named Joey in high school. And look at me! “LEON”, WTF? Who gets named Leon?…

That’s what I’m hoping for. Give him a shot. If 2022 is a bust, then… bye bye… * NOTE: I could never name or nickname a boy Joey… no baby kangaroos in my family… and it sounds effeminate… I haven't beat up on Gallo in a couple days but I thought I would regurgitate what I have said about him in the past. His career batting average in Texas was .208 and he struck out 45% of the time. He does have some power but striking out every other plate appearance just doesn't do it for me. I'll give you that he has more speed than the average lamp post but he has only stolen 12 bases in the last 3 years. To me keeping him says more about what Cashman thinks about the outfield prospects in our farm system than it says about Gallo's ability. Brett Gardner has stolen only 7 bases the last two years, does that also mean “he has more speed than the average lamp post”? Beat up on Gallo for his strikeouts and lack of contact by all means, but you do not win gold glove awards and always among the defensive runs saved (DRS) leaders for outfielders without having solid wheels. He has no trouble scoring from second on a base hit. Is he Willie Wilson? No, but your categorization of his movement, range, and speed is just not accurate. Also, according to B-R, his career numbers as a Ranger were .211/.336/.497/.833. An .833 OPS paired with his DRS has solid value, especially when you consider the numbers of the Yankee left fielders over the years. Other than Rickey Henderson and Hideki Matsui, it’s been a thin position for the most part. Also, Gallo’s strikeout rate (PA/SO) for his career is .368.

So we're off to a rough start. But lo, there is Leon Russell and Leon Redbone, so that's progress. On the sports side several of us here remember the colorful OFer Leon "Daddy Wags" Wagner. Former heavyweight champ Leon Spinks, he of the vampire teeth. Leon Hart was a Heisman Trophy winner at Notre Dame. Leon Panetta, former everything in the Federal Government. Old funnyman Leon Erroll. Actor Leon Ames, who was in a lot of movies and TV shows playing distinguished but irritable roles. I remember him mainly as the neighbor on "Mr. Ed" who would walk in on Wilbur when he was having a conversation with Ed in the barn. So it's a mixed bag. But you're holding up the honor of the name quite well.

I certainly remember Leon Spinks beating an already worn out Muhammad Ali, who immediately recaptured the belt for the first three-time world champion of the heavyweight division.

Earlier today, Brian Cashman was on @mlbnetwork and said that he believes Oswald Peraza could "play shortstop defensively in the big leagues right now."
THE STUPID QUESTION FROM TEQUILA = "Then why don't the Yankees want to keep him & promote him to the ML and have him start as SS.
He is very cheap (Not $300m), high energy; capable of not only playing SS but also 2B & 3B; under our control; fast, YOUNG, etc.
On the Bench for backup we could have either: Volpe R (2B SS 3B) OR Oswaldo Cabrera SH*** (2B SS 3B OF). Or both. if we Trade Torres, Voit, Urshela (Part of my Six Year Plan = year One).
So, we go from LOSERS (no WS in ten years) to YOUTH trying with their best ATTITUDE/ENERGY to prove themselves. MY $$$ are on the YOUTH = OUR FUTURE.
I wonder what TB would do --Trade the losers save $$$--bring up the YOUTH and NOT sign a SS to $300m???
My last thought/question: Are WE going to the WS this year?
DO ME: Tequila, TB would make the right call and as such, might have to rebuild for a year or two = BUT will be right back as Divisional Winners and WS Contenders...
While we continue to SIGN FAS to High $$$ LONG TERM Contracts (Ellsbury--Tex--Stanton--Cole etc. and now a $300M SS???).
No Tequila, sadly, we are not going to the WS this year EVEN if we sign all the best FAS = We are once again throwing everything to the wind (Prospects) regardless of cost & once again without a PLAN (cannot have a Plan if losing for 10-years plus...) are going to stumble our way thru the season.
But the Fans will be screaming when our Swing Away as Batters hit a HR at 120mph--WOW!!!
Sadly, they forget we will probably be chasing others in our Division.
Maybe Judge or Stanton or our New EXPENSIVE SS will hit one out of the Park = WOW! WOW! WOW!
The Yankee Fans so easy to please...maybe they think if Sanchez blocks a Past Ball that makes the Team a winner???!!!
Again, I will state WE need a Major Make-Over/Rebuilt = that doesn't include signing expensive FAS to long-term contracts = that is what got us in this mess.
Goodnight Tequila. Maybe you should dream about TB or the Blue Jays???!!!

As always, Leon the Assassin, er professional gets the hottest chick on the planet… I recall Middle infielder Leon McFadden with the Indians. I think the White Sox later. I made sure to tell my boss about him at the time because his name was McFadden and we was extremely white and Irish. He had revealed his racism many times and Leon McFadden was a black man. My boss was not in the least amused… heh-heh. I was. Mr. McFadden was my daddy for a day, and he minded that almost as much as he did the implication of a black family member. He definitely though of himself as better than all that. I once recommended that he hire a very nice black fellow I knew, and he refused on the basis that it might upset some of our customers that were suspected KKK members. Ervin would have been a great guy to work with. But then again… I wouldn’t have wanted to see him hurt, either. I don’t think he would have been…

My apologies, DoMe, but I’d rather not mirror the machinations of the Tampa Bay Rays with their dungeon of a stadium, which on a good night is filled to a whopping 25% capacity. When players come and go like a temp agency, it’s difficult for home town fans to get behind the team. It wasn’t that long ago that many Yankee fans wanted to adopt the “Money Ball” philosophy of the Oakland A’s during their combined run of playoffs and parsimony; however, neither team has won a World Series during their “superior” penny-pinching decision-making eras. Oakland last won a World Series in 1989, pre-Billy Beane.
For all of the Yankees’ ill timed injuries last season, it could be argued that a number-three hitting, all star defensive shortstop may have been the difference between the Yankees first round exit and a an ALCS against the Astros without their electronic advantage. The Yankees haven’t had a losing season since 1992, when George H. W. Bush was president. Tampa Bay’s last losing season was 2017. Oakland’s was in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Boston’s was 2020.
Do I have multiple issues with Brian Cashman, Hal Steinbrenner, and Aaron Boone? Vociferously and adamantly, YES! But, that does not necessitate wanting to emulate a franchise with zero championships to its name.

Tampa does not garner their success by printing players who may be glove ready, but not bat ready, nor do they succeed by flooding their bench with the tender young shoots growing on the farm that have only tasted A ball. The second hardest transition in baseball tends to be the jump from high A to AA. The hardest is AAA to the majors. Your dreams of pushing youth are always too aggressive. You could quickly turn any tram into the ‘62 Mets or worse… I know, right? Miracle Mets in ‘69, right? But that really was a sort of a miracle. Let’s not depend on that…

From the NY Post:
"A return next season of Zack Britton, who underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow in September, is “possible toward the end, but it’s probable that you won’t see him,” general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday, as he departed Major League Baseball’s GM’s meetings. “Whatever happens will be whatever’s in the best interest of the health of the player.”
