www.mlb.com/news/yankees-ben-rortvedt-has-huge-muscles"That's 24-year-old catcher Ben Rortvedt. He was rated the best defensive catcher in the Twins' system last season, he's an exceptional framer and some scouts believe he may eventually have 20-HR power. And yes, as you could probably see from outer space, he is exceedingly yoked. His powerful, lefty swing could fit in perfectly at Yankee Stadium as he develops, or, like his first MLB homer, he can always crank one 417 feet the other way." I’ve read that he has a flat swing with an opposite field contact oriented approach. The hope would be to teach him to lift and pull. Seriously, look at him. Twenty HR power? If a good coach can get through to him, he may have 100-home run power. Or he may tear every muscle in his body trying. Scouts have his arm rated as a 55, extremely powerful, and his pop times are between 1.82 and 1.93 seconds, which is excellent. He does tend to hold the ball too long and throw it left and low to his target. But he’s young. I’d be overjoyed if he can make the team, big would remain very interested in following his MiLB development if he gets sent down…

My guess is Billy Beane would rather deal with the Royals. And props to them for signing Greinke.

My guess is Billy Beane would rather deal with the Royals. And props to them for signing Greinke. Indeed, as it should have been with Freddy Freeman and Atlanta (Braves will be glad to have Matt Olson, though). Zack Greinke is more Jamie Moyer-esque these days. Nevertheless, still fun to watch negotiate a lineup.

Now that we didn’t sign him, we can talk about how he’s entering his decline phase… 😂🤓

The Yankees should have bought this guy's appreciation - that is, "We want you!" After how he was treated by his original team, we could have used this guy's gravitas in the clubhouse. I listened to CC Sabathia's and Ryan Ruocco's podcast, which featured Aaron Hicks as the guest. Sabathia spoke about how lost he felt, after Andy Pettitte's retirement. Hicks talked about the same feeling when Didi Gregorius was not re-signed. The discussion highlighted that when you lose a key piece in the clubhouse atmosphere - a leader if you will - it becomes important to have a replacement that can take the air out of the room and resettle everyone. Freddy Freeman would have had that effect in a way that Josh Donaldson does not. Sabathia said, "Andy is just a different kind of human." That is why I never questioned Pettitte's truthfulness about PEDs.

Anyone have an idea why left-handed Danny Duffy is not signed? He could be a decent pickup as a fifth starter type. He's pitched well in Yankee Stadium in his career.

He was effective last year, strong, confident. Then, he got injured. It was unclear if he’d need surgery. He was traded to the Dodgers so he could be close to home. His return is still in doubt as to effectiveness, and even desire. He’s considering retirement but has made no announcements yet. The Royals are thinking about bringing him back. Remember that he first “retired” at age 21? He can be a complicated guy…

There are really no other viable free agent starters available. Only trades from here on. Castillo or Montas, I suppose, since Cincinnati and Oakland are unloading.

Even though Castillo struggled early in the season, he got straightened out. I’d rather get him… He could grow up to be an ace…

that would be a good reason Dodgers = nineties Yankees if their bets pay off.

On pitcherslist.com, I found Luis Gil ranked number 146, so with thirty teams, he should be a fifth starter somewhere:
"146. Luis Gil (New York Yankees) – Luis was ridiculous in his brief audition for the Yankees last year. His 96.1 mph heater would rank 16th among qualified* starters if he hit the BF threshold, which returned a 13.4% SwStr and propelled his near 30% strikeout rate. Sadly, his control isn’t pretty, as he walked 19 in nearly 30 innings, a product both of an unwieldy heater and a lack of depth in his arsenal. His #2 pitch is a wicked slider with plenty of potential, but, like the heater, it needs to find a few more strikes before Gil can truly break out.
The real issue here is he’s 7th on the block at the moment (assuming Taillon is healthy), and it’s possible the Yankees sign another arm before the start of the year. That isn’t to say we won’t see Gil appear at all this year, it just means we won’t see him in a position where he can develop in the majors. 2023 seems like a possible breakout year if he has the opportunity, while 2022 should be a mix of disjointed starts with limiting pitch counts."
Note: At the time of this article, German at #109 was not on the Injured List and was ranked above Gil and Cortes Jr. at #112.
Also,
"152. Deivi García (New York Yankees) – Before Gil, there was Deivi, who had a sprinkle of success in 2020 where five of his six starts came with at least six strikeouts. His brief time in 2021 was far from pretty, but I’m not ready to give up on him yet. Deivi’s slider and changeup showcased legit whiffability during both stints, his curveball should act as a solid “show-me” offering, and his four-seamer should be better than the .333 BAA allowed last season.
It’ll take some time for us to buy into a successful Garcia, but don’t rule out the possibility if we see him have an extended stay in the majors this year."
And,
"153. Clarke Schmidt (New York Yankees) – There’s another option in the Yankee rotation in Schmidt, though I don’t see as high of a ceiling given the stuff he brings to the table. He could leap above García to get an earlier shot, but with his emphasis on sinkers, is it worth it? I’m not sold that it is.
But hey, he made Judge and Stanton look foolish with breakers in the summer of 2020, and maybe I’m undervaluing his potential. Now with a clean bill of health, there’s time for more development that could put egg on my face. I know, it’s a weird phrase, Fast taught it to me years ago on the pod and I still can’t say it without some sort of preface (debrief?)."
Lastly, Michael King was not on the list, which may be due to him being used as a reliever so often last season. To me, King is a better starting prospect than Schmidt and Deivi.

that would be a good reason Dodgers = nineties Yankees if their bets pay off. Minus the multiple World Series titles.
