After weeks of speculation, Bubba Watson has finally made a decision about his future on the PGA Tour, and like many other golfers before him, announced he will be joining the LIV Golf series. Wednesday, Watson clarified further that not only is he joining LIV, but he’s also “retired” from the PGA Tour.
Fresh off a major win at St. Andrews, Cam Smith is the next golfer rumored to be making the leap to LIV. Reports from earlier this week suggested Smith locked down a $100 million deal to leave the PGA, but Smith refused to address said reports during a press conference appearance ahead of the FedEx St. Jude Championship this weekend.
😂😂😂 The PGA was screwing these guys. Now they pay the price…

Perhaps this should be in the RIP thread, but golfer Tom Weiskopf died at age 79. He was a much better golfer than history may remember because like so many second place finishers in the 1970s he happened to run into Jack Nicklaus almost always ahead of him. Weiskopf won the British Open at Royal Troon and finished second at the Masters' Championship at Augusta National four times.
Nicklaus once said of him, “Tom Weiskopf had as much talent as any player I’ve ever seen play the tour.” Weiskopf had a temper and a drinking problem that kept him from making the most of his natural ability. He was a very insightful analyst in the booth and was honest about himself and the game. Weiskopf was much like Bruce Lietzke, loving the outdoors, hunting and fishing more than the game of golf.
When I was a kid, Weiskopf was always on the leaderboard. He famously said about Jack Nicklaus: “Jack knew he was going to beat you. You knew Jack was going to beat you. And Jack knew you knew he was going to beat you.”
RIP Tom Weiskopf

But he sure could play the game. I’d bet anything he had a tee time today with three regular guys that you’d meet at any public golf course. He probably pulled down a few beers with them and beat the tar out of them…

And Jack knew you knew he was going to beat you.” RIP Tom Weiskopf A break in the schedule broadcasting from the Nutmeg State and I'm just catching up. Tom Weiskopf for sure was more than the final tally showed. He was a few years behind Jack at Ohio State and the comparisons were inevitable and unfair. A bit like Mantle/Murcer because they were both from Oklahoma and were both OFers who started as shortstops. Tom Weiskopf in the 1970s was among the top five or six golfers in the world. He didn't have the staying power, as you might expect from a guy who would skip a Ryder Cup to go big-game hunting. He was a thrill to watch. I saw him several times at the now-defunct IVB-Philadelphia Open, held at Whitemarsh Country Club and where he got two of his 16 tour victories. When they started, Tom was a slender guy with good hair and Jack was a fat guy with bad hair. That sure changed. I agree with Rizz that he was an honest and intelligent analyst. He had a nice second act as a golf course architect, which he credited for keeping him stable in his post-playing years. What a talent and what a joy to watch when he was focused. RIP Tom Weiskopf.

Smith, Niemann among players to join Saudi-backed LIV Golf.
The PGA Tour Has Responded to LIV Golf, But Until It Lands a TV Deal, LIV Will Remain More Nuisance Than Serious Threat
Greg Norman has hailed the Saudi-funded circuit’s audacious £100 million-plus signing of world No 2 Cam Smith – as well as that of Joaquin Niemann, the youngest player in the world’s top 20 – as proof that “our truly global league is attracting the game’s best players”.
...“Money was definitely a factor in making this decision – I won’t ignore that or say that wasn’t a reason,” Smith told Australian Golf Digest. “It was obviously a business decision for one and an offer I couldn’t ignore.
“[But] the biggest thing for me joining is [LIV’s] schedule... I’ll be able to spend more time at home in Australia and maybe have an event down there, as well. I haven’t been able to get that part of my life back and it was really appealing.”
