If Gallo, Voit and Donaldson stay healthy, we may have 5,000 strikeouts this year. That's a lot of nothing. I think the Yanks have to go hard for Olsen. Give the A's Gleyber, one of the young SS's plus a couple of other prospects. Then you have Olsen 1B DJ 2B Kiner-Falefa SS Donaldson 3B Higgy/Rortvedt C |

Why trade for an aging Donaldson and take on all that money? I don't get this. Its obvious that.... I have no idea either. I suspect they don't plan to have him many more years. In two years they will promote a minor leaguer to SS and move the guy with two names to third. Which does not do much for our inability to get on base, but I don't think they see this as a problem. |

My guess is the Yankees have given up on free agency and hope that their minor league system will address their needs. Given some of the awful contracts they are stuck with they have little choice if they don't want to go over the salary cap.
In the long run that might work. In the short run we will a bit better than mediocre. Over the decades watching the Yankees elite minor leaguers turn out to be a lot less elite than assumed I am not optimistic.

If you followed Baltimore more closely after the National came to DC it would make more sense. The Yankee ownership has given up on WS. As long as fans show up and watch YES the fact that we don't have a great team is not important. |

Donaldson is older and fading but he can still play. Also, with him at 3B and Kiner-Falefa at SS they are much better defensively that they were before the trade. |

I'm trying to find the good side of this trade. It's not terrible I guess. But I would have allocated the 50 million better than to throw it at Donaldson. And now we have a catcher whose worse than Gary. I'll miss Urshela. I hope there are some more moves coming. |
