I am curious as to what the folks on here think about how we will deal with the leadoff hitter situation moving forward. It seems like we have been struggling finding the solution for our leadoff hitting woes forever. I realize there is nothing we can do about that this year but we have to solve it at some point in time. I love the contributions Gardner has made but he isn't the answer. Neither is Hicks. Any opinions? I think Gardner and Hicks are fine options as leadoff hitters. The only issue with Gardner is that he no longer seems to be a great hitter and it probably isn’t coming back at his age. Given that the Yankees don’t run, I think they can just put four of their best hitters at the top of the lineup in almost any order. I like Judge and Stanton in the 3-4 holes just in case the 1-3 hitters get on base. Hicks, Torres and Andujar are fine options for 1-2. Gardner isn’t a terrible choice if he’s hitting well, which doesn’t happen as much as it used to. They definitely don’t need what used to be a prototypical fast base stealing leadoff hitter because they don’t steal bases much and shouldn’t do that in front of guys who will get pitched around with the base open and who should hit with a runner on instead of risking an out or an open base.

It seems as though Neil Walker has been a hot hitter for a long time, yet he’s still only hitting .224. I suppose that to be a statement about the condition of the team as much as anything else...Still amazing how well the season has gone, all things considered...

www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/08/yankees-acquire-adeiny-hechavarria.htmlThe Yankees have announced that they have acquired shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria from the Pirates. Cash will also go to New York in the deal, with a player to be named later or cash considerations heading back to Pittsburgh. New York designated southpaw Ryan Bollinger to open a 40-man spot.

Best Shape of His Life Alert!!!: Kind of late in the season for that. Suzyn also mentioned that Gary seemed like he was in great shape in a moment which clearly made John uncomfortable....

Not sure I get this one. They didn’t give up much but don’t we have both enough infielders and enough players that can’t hit?

I guess so if they think this guy is an improvement. Neither one of them can hit but in theory Wade isn’t a finished product and should have some upside. This deal suggests maybe not.

I did see Wade was called up today, probably more for pinch running purposes.

I wonder if the release of Robinson gets us back under the luxury tax threshold? I would assume it does. Tarpley will get the MLB minimum...

Tarpley has shown vast improvement since his arrival from the Pittsburgh organization and rose steadily in the Yankee system. If he can throw strikes at the MLB level he could make a nice add as another lefty in the pen...

The Yankees have done a good job with kids from other organizations, like Tarpley and Mike King and turning them into legit major league prospects.
