To me, this means we had a pretty darn good off-season. Requirements: Fulfilled. Coffers: Still full. Flexibility to continue to improve the team if opportunity presents or need arises... given that I don't like free agents I half agree. I think our starting pitching is way to thin to win a WS. Not sure how much a priority that is with management. Their coffers are full without winning one since 09.

Infield defense is one of the worst in the league. SP is thin. Other than that, very good team.

Infield defense is one of the worst in the league. SP is thin. Other than that, very good team. Torres made rookie miscues last year. He has a full year under his belt and has the potential to be terrific. Tulo should at worst be steady. We have DJLM to baby sit in the late innings for someone on the corners...It could be better, I agree...but there are probably worse IF defenses in the league... Boston will often have Pearce at first, and their third sacker had similar defensive woes to those of Andujar last year. While Andujar was 91st and last in MLB, the kid over there (name escaping me, can you tell?) was 87th...and I think Boegarts to be only slightly above average with the glove...

I'm confused by the doom and gloom around here. With the exception of the Red Sox, there wasn't a team in baseball better than the Yankees last year and there's really no reason to think the team won't be just as good this year. I'm excited about 2019 or maybe I just want summer to get here fast!

Boston was blessed with health and players having career years last season. I say bring it on, boys. Let’s fight to the death for the division title again...Although I will warn of the sneaky goodness of Tampa having the potential to nip at the heels of us and Boston...

No one cares now, but Sanchez's long fly ball in the 9th inning of Game 4 just missed being a walk off that would have forced a winner take all Game 5. These two teams are not that far apart.

A lot of the difference in these two teams can be made up with a simple comeback from Sanchez. Given his physical condition last season there’s plenty of reason to believe we’ll see that. While Boston’s catchers performed admirably behind the dish last season, they made Sanchez look like Babe Ruth in comparison with their bats. They were good defensively, not great enough to carry those numbers. Boston may still yet address their catching before the season starts, but if they don’t it won’t be a pretty comparison between that crew of scabs and a rejuvenated Sanchez...

www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/opinion-yankees-should-just-end-the-charade-and-pay-bryce-harper/ar-BBThx4k?li=BBnba9I&ocid=U147DHP Pretend you’re a Major League pitcher.
Hey, congrats! You’re freakishly talented, one of the precious few people on the planet with the capacity to throw a baseball 95 miles per hour with any accuracy. But I have some bad news: You’re warming up to pitch at Yankee Stadium, your team went quietly in the top of the first, and there’s a giant man named Aaron Judge somehow batting leadoff.
Look at the outfield wall: It seems impossibly close. Now look to the on-deck circle. Oh, for goodness’ sake, it’s Bryce Harper. Oh, and Giancarlo Stanton is standing on the top step with a batting helmet on, holding a bat, realizing all your nightmares.
Like Manny Machado, Harper remains unsigned as MLB front offices lean on the sport’s luxury-tax threshold to avoid big expenditures. Unlike Manny Machado, Harper has been seen as an inevitable Yankee since before he even reached the Majors. He grew up a fan of the team, and he has never shied from the spotlight. READ MORE...

I don't know who is good or not this year. I think Houston and Boston would have beaten us on average in the playoffs last year, not just Boston, because our starting pitching was very weak.

I too am excited about 2019 and the interesting team the Yankees have put out there the past two seasons. Having said that, they do need to overtake Boston at some point. They have finished behind Boston for three consecutive seasons now -- 9 GB in 2016, 2 GB in 2017, and 8 GB in 2018. The last time the Yanks finished behind the Red Sox that many years in a row was in the dark days of 1989-1991 (and actually it extended from 1988.) Time to return to the natural order of things.

I think some of us mistake doom and gloom for objective observations. Some of us are merely stating what is obvious from fans to pundits during the off-season. The infield is in fact weak defensively and the rotation after the first five is spotty. I totally get it that other teams would love to be in the Yankees shoes, but that’s another issue and I’m not an Orioles or Royals fan. I also understand that every team has weaknesses. Boston’s BP is underwhelming. Stating the obvious isn’t sniping.
