I think some of us mistake doom and gloom for objective observations. Some of us are merely stating what is obvious from fans to pundits during the off-season. The infield is in fact weak defensively and the rotation after the first five is spotty. I totally get it that other teams would love to be in the Yankees shoes, but that’s another issue and I’m not an Orioles or Royals fan. I also understand that every team has weaknesses. Boston’s BP is underwhelming. Stating the obvious isn’t sniping. the holy war between the pessimist and optimist (as I called them - I am a charter member of the former) has been going on as long as I can remember in this community and probably always will. I made comments pretty much identical to yours in past years during that war
I think the rotation is spotty period not just after the first five.

Yankees principal owner Hal Steinbrenner said on Thursday that he'll consider signing one of the top players available if general manager Brian Cashman delivers a proposal, according to Anthony Rieber of Newsday.
"Look, if somebody comes - I haven’t changed - I mean if somebody comes to me with a suggestion or a proposal, I’m going to seriously consider it right up until Opening Day or after," Steinbrenner said. "That’s part of my leave-no-stone-unturned (policy), right? But I’m excited about the roster. I think we’ve definitely got a better club Opening Day than we did Opening Day last year, particularly in pitching, which was my biggest area of concern." READ MORE...

So, what if the Yanks DO sign Bryce? In a way, wouldn’t that be so Yankee-like? At first they acted like Manny was in their sights, then like no one was in their sights, then... WHAM! Here’s Bryce...
But as I’ve pointed out before, I’m not so sure what we should do with him if we DO sign him. For the first time ever, I heard Judge say something the other day that was quite questionable. He said if the Yanks sign Bryce, then Bryce should play CF instead of him (Judge).
In context that may be all right, if the subject was whether or not Judge would move to CF, but in a vacuum, not only would Harper be horrendous in CF, but it discounts Aaron Hicks as well.
I believe IF Bryce becomes a Yankee, the swinging doors need to operate again to accommodate the trading away of an OF as well. If we trade Stanton or Hicks...We’d need to get a highly rated SP to make it justify the whole mess...Are we back to Kluber/Carrasco talks again?...

I think Hicks would still be the primary CF, with Judge, Harper and Stanton rotating between the two corner OF spots and the DH slot. Gardner would lose a lot of playing time.

With Harper in that rotation Gardner may not ever stand on the field until after the 7th inning in blowout leads...Of course neither Harper nor Stanton has always been able to stay on the field for 150 games, so there’s that... I wonder if either Judge or Stanton may start working out at 1B? Either would make a big target there, though the “handedness” is backwards... I’d be quite concerned if any except for Hicks or Gardner saw any significant time in CF. Judge is good enough there for 3rd strong/emergency duty, but his first break is a handicap out side of the much smaller RF in Yankee Stadium...

Judge is turning into a plus defender in RF, so I think I'd leave him there for a majority of the games. Now Stanton, I've wondered what he would like with a first baseman's mitt on.

I was thinking that when a player has Stanton’s injury history...in the years prior to the DH they would move a brittle OF to 1B to reduce his chance of injury. So then I got to thinking about Nick Johnson and Greg Bird. Wow! The OF might have proven fatal for either one...scary stuff. I agree on Judge, though for the long run, a 282 pound body may not hold up to running and diving for balls, that howitzer attached to his right shoulder is fine building block to construct a great defensive career around. I used to fake loafing or feign indifference to baserunners to appeal to their greed and then..,BAM! Yer’ out! That was so much fun...Now I couldn’t throw my grandmother out, and she died (both of them) before I was even born... “ Hey grandma, you’re out”! “ Not quite boy. I got there just ahead of the 27th hop on your throw. Damn worm-burner is what that was” “ Yeah, but you swatted the ball away with your cane”! “Heh-heh Sonny boy. Slow but steady wins the race.”

Great news! [img class="smile" alt=" " src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/GQenTev0hfkprTOBBlGu.gif"] Lock him up with a contract extension. Now. I agree, but given what the market looks like for players, I don’t think the Yanks will do anything. They have Torres waiting in the wings for the position, so there’s no need to rush anything... My original thought on Didi was to wait and see what he looked like when he came back. He’s an exceptional human being, but even exceptional human beings can lose their skillset quickly, especially after an injury. Hal’s not opening his wallet for much of anything right now. Great restraint...The last SS before Didi didn’t get much love at the end of his time, either...
