So we will give Didi a contract extension in his 30th year, but won't sign a 26 year old perennial AS to a 6 year deal? Maybe the extension will be just for 2-3 years?

If I'm him and the Yanks offer that, I'm on it in a flash...And Didi seems to be the sort of guy who understands that part of what is making him so valuable is the small right field in YS, as well as to be able to see what's happening on the open market...To me it seems like we have players that see what's going on, yet they still think "That's for other players, I'm the great Craig Kimbrel, they'll pay me more. I demand more, because I'm the great Craig Kimbrel"...

www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/yankees-more-interested-in-nolan-arenado-than-manny-machado/ar-BBTvo3N The New York Yankees have been discussed as a possible destination for free agent Manny Machado, but according to a report, Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado really has New York’s eye.
Andy Martino of SNY noted that while the Yankees have offered Machado a contract, it’s reportedly not a big offer. However, the interest in acquiring Arenado is high.
“In other news about Yankees third base targets, Colorado and Nolan Arenado remain apart on extension talks, according to people briefed on those discussions,” Martino reported. “Those talks might well result in Arenado signing with the Rockies, but if they break apart, the Yanks will be ready to initiate trade talks.”
He also noted that “the Yankees prefer Arenado to Machado.”
Unless he does sign an extension, Arenado will be a free agent at season’s end. On the one hand, it seems hard to believe that the Rockies, who have made the playoffs in each of the last two years, would trade someone as good as Arenado. Contending teams don’t generally deal elite players, even if they are pending free agents.
New York has a slew of young players to make up an enticing trade package. One of the players would almost certainly be Miguel Andujar. While not Arenado’s equal, he’s already proved to be a valuable MLB hitter.
Obviously, option one for the Rockies would be to extend Arenado. If that can’t happen, a trade with the Yankees is an option worth exploring. If nothing else, Colorado knows that it’d find an eager trade partner.

Dome, a breakout season (actually, a simple comeback) is not at all a far fetched idea for Sanchez. I have a feeling that you AND Tequila May wind up falling off your perch on this one!!!

Let’s postulate a bit about first base for a moment. I figured that the Yanks might go after a 1B in the off-season, so I held this thought back until now. What if Greg Bird and Luke Voit have equall spring trainings. Equally good wood be the hope.
Who stays and who goes to AAA? I assume both have options, but I’m not sure. That could be the deciding factor if someone is out and the other still has them.
I could see Bird getting the first shot with Voit waiting at AAA, and in time as the season passes one of the two traded away. We could use a lefty bat, and if Bird scuffles for the first month he could be dealt or released at that point.
If Voit gets the first shot and scuffles, it may be less simple to be decisive about what to do. Then we have DJ LaMahiue to consider as well. If he’s hitting without a position by mid-summer and Voit nor Bird are raking...
There are other scenarios that could happen in ST of course. What if Bird tears it up and Voit looks bad? If Voit looks good and Bird doesn’t this is a no-brainer. It’s one of the more interesting dramas that will play out this spring, along with the Miguel Andujar at 3rd base saga...which also could be a long shot first base solution as well...

Cashman said Voit has the slight upper-hand going in so I would assume Bird would have to noticeably outplay Voit to have a chance to win the job.
