And there, ladies and germs, is one of the fatal flaws in this organization - we live in the past, don't practice accountability, and reward mediocre/bad play. DJ should not be a regular MLB player anymore. The way he has played, he should be an end of bench/vet locker room guy, nothing more. Boone is, and always has been too deferential to veteran players and it hurts the team. Until Boone and Cashman are in the rear view mirror, we aren't real contenders.

I read an article in the NY Post and saw this quote from Nestor.
“This team is just a tick away from being great,” Cortes said. “I have no doubt that we’re going to be better and the front office will make this team better.”
I don't think I've ever seen a player say something like, "when we get some better players, we'll be great". I'd look in the mirror Mr. Cortes.

Just goes to show you how much we know. Wells hitting cleanup produced 2 K's and a GDP.

I take that to mean considering DJ's past, including 2 batting championships, he expects him to start hitting soon, as he did last year. That said...there are no realistic options other than Cabrera, who has played a very good 3B, but has also struggled offensively.

What Boone really needs to say is, "we got no one else, folks".

I'm not a fire Boone guy ...but that's a fireable offense. DJL has a .400 Plus OPS and is now a bad fielder well belwo replacement level They're are just giving games away with DJL, Cabrera and Grisham in the regular lineup If DJ is going to breakout it has to be as a Backup player ... the other 2 are never-wasbeens

I could be wrong, and I can't read minds, but I look at it as Boone defending his player and not criticizing his player in the media. Plus, as you mentioned the Yankees don't really have any realistic replacement for DJ.

Not much of an improvement.

DJL is hearing it from the fans and Boone is giving him a public pat on the back. I'm always surprised when fans are surprised when Boone supports his players publicly. It's who he is. It's a man bites dog story if he rips him.

Defending DJL and saying that he has earned the right to play are not exactly the same thing.
Regardless ... Boone lied and DJL is not playing

He may not lose his clubhouse but his players are playing him out of a job if they crash and burn this season. Criticizing/embarrassing his players in the media or clubhouse wouldn't change that. That might work for Drill Sergeants trying to motivate 18 year old recruits, but for a manager managing a MLB team, not so much.

I've said before I have no problem with Boone. I want Trashman gone and the failures are all on him. Joe Torre was not a great Manager before the Yankees but he managed the egos and got the best from the kids building a dynasty. No one wants to see Boone trashing players and throwing coolers but we are the greatest and best fans out there. If something is crap don't whitewash it everyday because it gets old.

I don't believe the comment was intended for the fans, it was for DJ and the other 25 players in the clubhouse.
