He may not lose his clubhouse but his players are playing him out of a job if they crash and burn this season. Criticizing/embarrassing his players in the media or clubhouse wouldn't change that. That might work for Drill Sergeants trying to motivate 18 year old recruits, but for a manager managing a MLB team, not so much. Yeah that didnt work for Billy Martin at all

Not in a world where the players are signed long term at crazy money and most managers live a tentative survival… Cashman makes lots of bad moves but maybe the worst is his propensity to hand out NTC in his long term deals. It makes his big money mistakes worse.

To me it is the same as your boss calling you into his office to criticize your performance and inviting your co-workers in to listen. If you're making 10's of Millions of $$$$ and performing like a minor leaguer ... You probably need that wake up call

Maybe you need to wind your watch and or change your calendar because that was a different time/era. Martin embarrassing Jackson didn't work, nor did it work when Martin went off on Whitson.
